Value of Reticle in a spotting scope

I missed that the Vortex is fixed power with a reticle. 22X doesn’t help vs scopes with resolving mil dimensions of a small target at distance. What does your Cronus give up to the Leopold?

Here's the review I did a while back that Snowballs mentioned: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...spotting-scope-with-reticle-review-comparison

The Leupold slightly edges the Athlon's glass (which is quite impressive for the price). The 3 scopes I reviewed were all a level above that Bushy Legend T (as I had one previously and was upgrading)

Honestly my biggest beef with the Athlon is that it's made in commie China, didn't realize that when I bought it as it's form factor almost exactly matches the Bushy LMSS (that is made by LOW in Japan). Other than that, I chose it as I found it to be the best compromise in a spotter with a reticle in that price bracket. The Leu[old wasn't a ton more but I also wanted the ability to mount a mini red dot and my LRF which necessitated the addition of a "cage" in the case of the Leupy and added cost again. If I had to do it again (and I will at some point) I'd get the Leupy as it's the standard for a good reason.

Well just watched a bunch of videos on king of the two mile and seen a lot of Vortex optics being used. I know its cuz they give them away and the warranty doesnt mean anything. These guys are just doin it for fun, haha, yeah for sure. Im sure the resident optic expert Maple 57 will have a derogatory comment. I also remember him spouting off and being challenged by Rabidm4u5 and when push came to shove he turtled cuz he knew he was beat before it even happend. When the gate drops the BS stops. I know after racing motocross professionally for six years. Talk only carries you so far.

As to the guys in KO2M using Vortex, there is nothing wrong with the high end Vortex stuff at all, it's quite good. ELR is a very specific niche within long range shooting where having a fixed magnification of 22x would probably be less of a hindrance than say PRS or field type matches where the targets all start much closer in than a mile and field of view is therefore a bigger deal.

Excellent review, quite topical for me too. The made in China thing is a bit of a “constant rash” for me too, although budget squeeze is real.

If I couldn't squeeze the extra for the Mk4 and was buying a spotter right now, I'd just get the new Bushnell LMSS2. I've got a buddy who's been using one for a while (who has lots of time behind a Mk4 for his "day job") and is really impressed with it. Same form factor as the original but new reticles and now comes with a top rail instead of needing to buy them as an expensive add-on kit.

I’m very interested in the Vortex Razor HD 85 primarily because I can get separate LER and Reticle eyepieces. But I’m torn between it and Kowa 773. I’m wondering if it is worth it in improved optics to go with the Kowa at the expense of the option of a Reticle Eye piece.

I have a milspec US Optics mil reticle FFP 15-40x spotter for sale for pretty cheap if anyone is interested. Works with NVG as well. PM me if you're interested.
