just curious what the value of a s/w 624 would be? saw one for 1500 but that seems rather steep since a new 24 can be had for 1200+tax. any ideas?

Price always depend on one factor fot this type of scarce model, Is what you are ready to pay for it. For myself, 1K will be the max I pay for this one. This is a limited model introduced in 1985 and discontinued in 1988. The 3rd Standard catalog of S&W rate a ANIB at $525.00 exc at $470.

Be careful when purchasing a 624 as many of these revolvers were a subject of a recall. A red circle "C" on the label of the box will indicate that the gun has been inspected by S&W and deemed safe to fire.

glad i posted this thread, i believe the fellow no longer has the box for it! very well, i cannot support such greed in any case, i will purchase a new nickel plated model.

And a cryptic letter "F" kind of a double stamp, on the face of the cylinder. As you look onto the rear of the open cylinder, as if checking for rounds in the firearm.

does this letter F serve as an indication the gun has been inspected?

ah, icic, thanks for the info, thats great. i suppose the seller should photgraph that stamp before selling, or provide the date of mfg :)

No problem, yes I would confirm this first. An email to S&W with the serial number of the 624, should provide any more important information.

PS: The internet rumour is, the recall was caused by the stainless steel provider, sending the wrong grade of SS to S&W facilites for fabrication into cylinders.
