Value of used hunting rifles..

Quite frankly, Stovepipe, that may be "how it works with anything else you buy", but has not been my experience that it works that way with used rifles.

Everyone likes to get a great deal, and occasionally one comes along, but if a rifle has been well taken care of, it is certainly worth more than 75% of new price. As well, many new guns are not worth as much as some older guns. 'Boo has given a very good example of this with his older BDL vs new SPS.

I agree. If the price is too high, just ignore it or wait for it to come down. :D

Yeah, but walk around with it for 10-20 years and it will be worth $1500.
Seriously - I think back to all the guns I sold back then, and wish I had them to sell now.
I bought a used Remington 700 some time in the 80's, for $250 - with mounted scope. Do you think I would sell for that price today? No way, it would sell in minutes @ twice what I paid! By some people's logic here, I should sell it for less than what I paid because I used it and wore it a little.
Guns are great investments, if you keep them untill they 'mature'.
 
New manufacturing methods to lower costs and higher Canadian wages both combat the allure of buying a used hunting rifle. There are some deals to be had but they're either quickly taken, or a rifle that has particularly poor resale value.
 
Depends on the deal.

If I can buy a rifle new for 1000.00 (+ 100.00 tax, + 25.00 shipping, + 150.00 for rings and bases, + 50.00 for brass + 100.00 for dies + 25.00 for a sling)

Or buy the same (1000.00 new) rifle here for 900, and still get the other stuff? I'm gonna buy the gun here :)

It's always said that the extras don't add to the value of the rifle...but they DO add to the value of the sale. When your "1000.00 dollar rifle" at WSS ends up resulting in a 1600.00 charge on your visa, the advantage becomes obvious :)

Oh yeah: Just because you can buy a 700SPS for 600 bucks, it does not mean that ALL 700's are worth that. Different models=different pricing.

There are a few used rifles I would happily pay new retail for: Frontier in a short-mag cal, Ruger deeerfield, M6, etc. :)
 
you dp not have to buy here it is a choice i have found some very good deals and sold a few here the good ones o very fast DUTCH
 
I can't see a problem here. If you know the value of what you want how could there be a problem. Good deals and rare/hard to find guns are going to go quick and for what is asked. Guns that every gun store has 10 of are going to be tough to sell and get your price for. I would agree that we see some out to lunch prices but also some great deals. Keep your eyes open and be ready. I find most Gunnutz are great to deal with.
 
In a few cases, you can see the catalogue price being cheaper, but in fact if you ordered one, there is no stock, so the price there means nothing. Meanwhile, if you really want an item, and can't find it anyplace else, you will have to pay for it.

I have knowingly paid a bit too much for something that I just had to have, and never regretted it. The worth of something can only judged by your need or want of it.

Hows that worked for you so far? Bought a lot of guns at half of fair price? I figure if you can't afford it or don't want to pay that much you should just STFU and look elsewhere.
