Trying to figure out a value for this little .22

I will never sell this rifle, it was my grandfathers and will continue to get passed down. The value is purely for personal records.

From the serial number I have found that it is a from the first year of production for the mod. 1906.

The rifle is in good condition and shoots great. I believe the only thing not original is the front sight.

If anyone can give me a ballpark value or any other information you may have it would be greatly appreciated.

The Winchester 06 seems to be the darling of this era of pump rifle options. A good price for one in the same condition as yours seems to be in the $350 to $400 range. And I've seen similar or only slightly better ones with asking prices of $700 on them.

Which would explain why I've got a couple of old Remington 12's which cost about 1/3 as much.

Any chance of sharing a story or two that is related to this one?

Thanks for the info.

I'm not good with stories but this little rifle used to ride in grandpa's truck, back when we had the rug bench seat covers with the long pocket along the front. Grandpa always said he could shoot a gopher in the eye with it.

hmmm... $699 in US dollars.

the one in the link looks like the stock has been refinished, I've always been told not to refinish as it will hurt the value of an old rifle.

Also it has a serial number that dates it to a 1926 manufacture, would mine with the low serial and being a first year of production affect the value?

To the right collector it would. And that would be why I see them with the $700 tags at the swap meets. The trick is finding that right buyer. I see those same rifles still sitting on the tables at the end of the day when I've checked. So I'd guess that there's more sellers than buyers at that price. On the other hand they seem to go away at $400'ish.

But yeah, if you're looking at insurance value something closer to $600 to $700 would cover it.
