Value on 60's Remington 700

I am looking at buying a Remington 700 .270 with an older scope. The gun was made in the 60's. It comes with a couple boxes of ammo.

First I would like to see what people think the value on a gun like that would be. It looks to be very well taken care of, and the rifling looks good.

Second, I know you have buy a new remington 700 for 550 on sale. Would I be better of buying a new cheaper 700 than buying an older one?

It should be worth 500 if a BDL, less for an ADL.The scope offers little or no value ( unless a Leopould etc) I have a new SPS & it shoots great. The older 700 do look better. Check the stock very carefully and the crown too. It is easy to miss something on ant gun.
 
There's no comparison between an SPS and a 700 made in the 60's. Providing the 60's rifle is in good condition.

Check the date code on the barrel and you can get the exact yr and month of mfg.
 
The gun was manufacutred in July of 64. He says it's an ADL, but it has the black piece at the end of the stock, and the hinge floor plate which would lead me to believe it's a BDL.
 
What is the barrel length?
I thought in the mid 60s the barrel was only 20". If that is the case, for me, No thanks.
 
It will not have the anti-bind slot in the bolt, it will have a bolt locking safety, pressed checkering and it will have a cut rifled barrel.
It's probably 22".
Some 1962 (first year) guns were 20" I've read.
Buy it.
