Value on a 30-30?????

Trying to get an educated value amount for this Glenfield/Marlin 30-30 lever.
It is stamped Glenfield 30A and has the JM stamp on the barrel.
The rifling is good, action works as a Marlin should and shoots to please.
Wood is not of the Marlin walnut.

One small crack on the rear wood, this side only and the butt plate is fine.

These rifles came with a birch stock and a different front site.They were marketed to big box stores but they are functionally the same as a 336.I had one that was around $260 new in the mid 80's.They are generally worth about a $100 less than a 336 of the same vintage on the used market.I'd say $250-$275 unscoped is fair for one in good shape.
 
The metal parts look pristine, just like new. And the wood is the only difference, other than the front sight, as mentioned, between this and a regular Marlin.
The hardwood stock, for all practical hunting and shooting purposes, is just as usefull as walnut would be.
Therefore, I wouldn't discount it more than $50 from a regular, pre Remington Marlin. Without the scope maybe $325.
 
This gal would sure smarten up with some wood upgrade.
She was nee 1980 if my homework is on the money.
Did the Marlin series ever come out with the front wood with the end cap
verses the band?

There is not a whole lot of stocks available on the Canadian side.Ebay.com usually has a few listed,Numerich in the states.Marlin are too expensive to order new wood.A lot of their stocks will fit the 30as including the laminates from a 336BL.I've been trying to find an original set for my 336 texan for some time to no avail.Mine has no pistol grip and a barrel band forend.Good luck.
 
I paid $300 for my Glenfield about 3 years back. The finish on the stocks is in better shape than yours. But as with any used gun purchase it's all about agreement between you and the buyer.

If I were listing what you have I'd likely start at $325 or so and if it didn't go reduce by $10 to $15 a bump (weekly) until you find a buyer. But at $325 shipped I don't think it would last long.

Love mine. It may not be the fanciest wood but it sure shoots great. I'm planning on mounting some sort of receiver peep or maybe a compact 4x .22 size scope to help out the owner's eyesight which is no where near as good as the rifle can manage.
