Have a mint basically new Continental 201 made in Belgium side by side 12 gauge. This gun is from the early 70's and I have owned since new

What it is worth?

Yes, pics would help as there was more than one shotgun called the Continental. I had a couple of Continentals but they were made by Feg in Hungary. Both were as new and I sold one for $475.00 and I traded one.

Here is a pic and I was mistaken, it is made in Hungary

The ones I had, had beavertail forearms and the wood was quite a bit nicer on both. You should be able to get $375.00 . You won't find much of a gun for under that that offers ejectors , 3" chambers and dovetailed chopper lump barrels plus the condition it is in. The ones for $200.00 to $300.00 are for well used examples on tradeex.

His FEG has 2 3/4" chambers and the tradex ones are anywhere from $169 to $225, never more in the last 2 years at least.

I am well aware of what tradeex sells. I had and still do have a large collection of SxS's and I have looked at the guns on tradeex many times. Condition is everything. People see prices on tradeex and think every gun of that model should be the same price. Unless a problem was found when actually looking at the gun in hand, or it's not "as new" as he claims, the OP's gun is worth more than $225.00. I have had a Feg Monte Carlo, a Feg Victoria and 2 Feg Continentals. Not one of them, because of condition, was under $300.00 (and I was well aware of what they were listed for on tradeex). And when I decided to part with them I got more than what I paid. So there are some buyers that will pay more for one of these Fegs if the condition warrants it.

As this thread was about finding out a value going by the owner's description, I just thought I would elaborate in regards to how one person's definition of condition differs from true condition. Many times you hear someone say the gun is "very nice" or "excellent" which really doesn't say much. I have the said gun in this thread now in hand. While nice, it is nowhere near "as new" or mint as posted in this thread. There are enough marks and flaking finish to remove it from the mint category right away. But the biggest thing is the barrels have fine speckling running their entire lengths. The bluing is dull as if someone already took fine steel wool to them to remove rust. Obviously, the gun was not stored properly. It is important that when one wants a fair value estimate on any gun that the condition is described accurately or close up pics are taken to show true condition.

Brian, am I detecting singed fingers??

No actually, for dovetailed chopper lump barrels, cocking indicators, double triggers, chrome lined bores and ejectors that can be removed at the push of a button so the gun becomes an extractor gun, I am quite pleased with the price paid. It's going to be my back up duck gun since I was sorry that I got rid of my last Continental.
As you see on here so often where people say "the gun's in excellent condition, what's it worth", I was merely pointing out that people have to be a lot more accurate in describing condition if they want true values. Since this was a recent thread and I have first hand knowledge of said gun, I thought I would comment. Don't get me wrong, the gun is nice and well worth what I paid (well below what I sold mine for). It's just not mint or as new as the OP thought. In plain terms, I'd put it as very nice category.
Plus, I already having it looking a lot nicer.
