Value on Mini 14 factory folder help please.

You are correct. If it came from the factory with the folder, the swivel should be on the left hand side of the gas block, as seen in the picture below.

Looks like the gun didn't have that stock from the factory, but he or a previous owner acquired the stock at a later date. This may help give the OP a bit of wiggle room on the price.

Thanks for the heads up. After it being pointed out in an earlier post, I googled it and get conflicting opinions on that in pictures and posts. No matter, I googled the old fellow and asked whether this was original on this rifle, and the answer I got was 'clearly'....LOL

The easiest way to know for sure is to take a look at the model designation. Where it's a stainless commercial model, and not a GB model, if I remember right it should say Kmini14-F on the receiver in order for the gun to have had the stock from the factory. K for stainless, F for folder. The K should precede Mini-14. If it doesn't have the -F, the stock was added by the owner.

EDIT: The roll mark that contains the model nomenclature should be on the top of the heel of the receiver. Might be hard to get a good look at with that scope obscuring it.

That's actually a common misconception. It depends on the production run. Some full stock models left the factory with side mount sling swivels. The folders came with both side and bottom sling swivels. Towards the end of production they only made bottom sling swivels so they could cut down on production cost and only product one gas block. The only way to be 100% sure just call Ruger and give them the serial number and they will tell you how it left the factory.

Everything I have ever read on the subject has said different, but I am perfectly willing to admit I'm wrong, if this is indeed true. So in the interest of curiosity, and to put the matter to rest, I will second Rebel Rouser's recommendation to have Ruger run the serial number and have they themselves answer this.

A GB just says MINI 14 .233 on the receiver. It will also has the law enforcement markings on them too. All GB are chamber for 5.56

It also depends on the serial number range.

Thanks much...appreciate the update. I do however have to ask the question in terms of saleability. Based on an assumed value of $1500, if the action was put into the folding stock and not the original, what effect would that have overall?

Thanks
Darren

The value is actually in the stock it's self. If you had a NIB factory folder stock, they are going for $750-$950US.

Not here. $500 to $600 max. I've sold a couple. Just like Pythons... USA is a different market.
I also sold a brand new in the box, un fired factory folder with matching labeled box and all I could get was $1400 (It was a ranch too!)

I sold a minty stainless on here a year or 2 ago for $1200 and it got snapped up pretty quick. Not sure if the buyer sold it for a profit or kept it, but it was pretty nice! Still wish I had it by times....

UPDATE:

So as Paul Harvey says, here is the rest of the story!

Keep in mind that I know zero about mini 14s up until this foray happened and I still really don't, but learning little by little. We ran the serial number, it did not come with a factory folding stock.

However the mini 14 was supposed to be original according to the owner, we'll now call him Senior. Then one day his son was home (Junior) and the discussion came to this mini 14 to which all the info was shared...Senior still disagreeing with Ruger, of course...when Junior pops up and says that Senior is mistaken.

Really long story...the condensed version is this...between Senior and Junior there are a number of mini14s hiding in the nether regions of the house. Junior at some point in the past wanted a scoped version in the folding stock, so he swapped two of them. So he rummaged around and found the correct mini 14 which does in fact have the side sling mount and matching serial number. Simple...problem solved. Well, that one anyway.

My problem now is that my trade deal has gotten complicated because he wants me to throw in more stuff from my end and take both the folder and the non-folder....:runaway:

The original folder action looks to be in the same condition but does not have a scope mount or scope, but it was drilled for one...a single hole in the top of the action just in front of the rear sight. Shame, but what can you do. Easily fixed with a cut, peened and polished stainless screw, but that would be up to the next owner.

I am still standing on my original deal to take the folder only first and if that works out to sell in the range we need to make this work, then I will discuss the non-folder with him.

So I guess there really is no problem other than to throw it up on the EE and see what comes of it.

Thanks again to everyone for your help :)
