Hello all,

I'm the proud new owner of one of these in 16.5 inch. It has a 3-9x40 on it which is too big and not what I need/ want. Can anyone suggest a scope @ $125 or less that would work for plinking, plates and targets up to 100 yards? I've always liked those UUQ tactical scopes off Amazon. Eg 1.2-6 x 24. Any ideas? Or used ones cluttering up the cupboards you might sell?

Thx!

You may be able to snag a Bushnell Ar Optics 1-4 used or on sale for around that price. Up to 100 yards a red dot would serve you well, unless you want precision. There are decent options in that price range, and it would keep the weight down.

Good suggestions thanks. I have a Redfield Counterstrike on my now prohib GSG 15 that I might try but the 4 moa dot might be a bit large. It's all fun.

Bush Banner 3-9s are everywhere. Likely 'Made in China' unless you find a really old one, but they would serve your purpose. Even a Tasco from CT would work, but a bit pricier than used Bush.

Cheap scopes usually end up being more expensive in the long run. After you realize you paid good money for junk, you'll then have to spend more for what you should have bought in the 1st place.

Look for a deal on the used market. Geologist mentioned his Redfield. I would further qualify that and say look for a used Redfield Revolution. I have three. Two 2-7 and a 4-12. All made by Leupold. Buy one with a duplex reticle. The LR reticle is wonky.

The used Bushnell 3200 and 4200s are a good buy used as well.

If you wanted as small as you can get while still being cheap I'd recommend a TRS-25 red dot. They're a hundred bucks. I've had mine for over ten years and it's still just as acceptably okay as it ever was. They're TINY but still nice and bright and easy to see out of. Just right for plinking at a hundred.

Spend a bit more for something decent.

I have one of these for plinking and I love it. The fiber wire reticle is TRULY red dot bright. Can be used like a red dot at 1X and has some magnification for when you want to shoot farther or get more precise.

Yeah it's $499 but you can look for a sale or snag a used one for a bit less...

Another vote for bushnell trs25 for an optic in that price range. I had one on my 223 rifle for a time doing ranch rifle things and it gave me no trouble. I think if you are careful you can find other serviceable red dots in your budget and they are perfect for your use case of 100m.
I don’t think you will find a trustworthy magnified optic for under ~$400 these days but you may score a used deal

Used B&L 3000, 4000 or Bushnell 3200/4200 or Redfield revolution are my top recommendations for budget scopes.

I did just pickup a Weaver Classic K series that so far has impressed me, but time will tell if it was a good buy or not.

This is what I have and after over 2k rounds down the pipe I never had to make any adjustments unless I was shooting a heavier bullet. This sits proudly on my Savage Axis XP 223 Remington.
