Looked at one that might be for sale.
Here are the details.

Winchester 101 pigeon grade 12 ga. 26" BBLs, Fixed Mod and IC bores.

Blueing is 100%, metal is 99%, and wood/checkering is 95% (odd small dents).

Owner said gun was made in 1974. It is obvious he has taken very good care of it.

I searched here and on gun broker, but couldn't come across anything similar. (esp choke configuration).
If you could help place a value range on this (I know, it is tough to do without picts), I would appreciate your help!

Thanks,

James

I have seen a number of these older Win, for me fixed choke and a 26 inch barrel not that attractive. Most of them not a whole bunch nicer than a Citori of the same time period. I say a grand tops. FS

I bought a pristine 1970s field grade 101 with fixed choke & 28" bbls for $600. They are citori quality but don't sell for citori prices.

I'd guess you might get $900-$1000 for it, 26" bbls could make it less interesting to most buyers.

If it has the satin engraved receiver and pigeon engraved on the top of the rib and is in the condition as stated Retail value would be in the $800-$1,000.00 range.

shooters choice has a pigeon grade 101 with 26" barrels for sale. it has fixed chokes, but the chokes have both been opened up to skeet. They are asking $1495, so a normal person would sell it for close to $1000

Shooters choice isn't great on pricing. I think the price is high, probably 700-1000 tops is fair.

The gun retailed new Late 70's to mid 80;s for $1,000.00 -$1,200.00 it is likely a 2 3/4'' gun . Blue book is of no relevance in today's market here or u.s side especially on the u.s side .

What it is worth and what some of here on CGN are willing to pay are two different things.
Rob

Wrong. It's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Books don't buy guns - people do. For the most part, good quality used guns sell for substantially less in Canada than they do in the USA.

Blue Book pricing is based on a sampling of average prices realised on the US market, not Canadian. Even for the US market it's usually 2-3 years out of date even if you buy this year's edition.

I agree 100% Some may be willing to pay $600+ for this gun and the blue book may say such and such, and someone may have bought one similar for 1000+,
but I would only buy this gun if I got it for about $350.00.

Truer words never spoken.
