Given that it appears that the shipping costs more than the media does for a small order I am seeing if there is any interest in some guys in Vancouver splitting shipping on some stainless from pellets.
So far I have one other guy wanting 5 lbs so if CZ is right I am half way to a full box. I just sent an email to pelletsLLC asking if the numbers I have gotten out of the forum are still valid.

5 Pounds for $50 bucks, shipping on 5 pounds shouldnt be more than 10 or 20. Another thing you might want to try is a place like KAMAN. Buy a sack of small beaing balls. They are really cheap and if you get the really small ones they should work great

I checked on the STM's checkout shipping calculator... 5 lbs will cost $25 to ship. 10 lbs, $50... So total price from STM is $75/5 lbs or $15/lb.

I talked to sales at pellets LLC, their pellets are available in 5lb bags for $30 and ship via flat rate 20lb international boxes for $26.55. So if 20lbs are ordered it will be $146.55/20lb or $7.33/lb or $36.64/5lb bag.

Of course the tax man might step in and hit us with a COD tax collection on a shipment from either STM or pelletLLC. But pellet would still be cheaper with shipping and tax then the $50 bas price from STM.

So if anyone wants 5 or 10 lbs of stainless steel media give me a shout.

If there are a lot of people wanting stainless media I could go for a 50lb box shipped to a PO box in Blaine. The price point for that would be lower but the effort would be greater.

I'm not really sure if a Canada wide order would be advisable becasue then I am looking at the additional shipping costs to move the product across the country.
 
First, if you are planning any group buys on CGN, you have to get permission from the Admin.

Second, as you are from Vancouver area, can you get to Blaine, WA easily? Set up a UPS receiver there, (I use http://www.hagensofblaine.com/ )and send it there. Far cheaper for shipping, but you have to pick it up and declare it yourself.

Re-read the rules and clued in on #13... so depending on the resonse from higher, either this thread will get approval or will spontaneously disapear.

I was debating using a Blaine PO box for a larger shipment, 50 lb box to be specific. I've used mailboxes international before that has similar rates but requires a yearly fee which Hagens makes optional.

For a 20 lb box shipping to Canada is $26.55, shipping to Blaine is $10. As I am not paying annual fee it would cost $5 for the package handling so it only works to a saving of $11.55. Take the cost of gas into account or the time spent and it starts pushing towards costing more than just direct shipping.
 
I have been interested in getting the magnetic stainless steel media for some time now and it is hard to believe that there is no Canadian business that has this or makes them for some other purpose. To me they look like pin rollers for roller bearings similar to a u-joint on your vehicle.

The original person that introduced this concept didn't come up with it on his own and it was discovered by pure accident I read on another web site. Just have to figure out where he worked or what the pins are for and that should give us some leads.

I guess the jewelry business uses them to polish things and also they are used to clean off metal like a sand blaster does. The size of the pins offered on a couple of sites are 0.040" x 0.25" and another site has them at 0.041" x 0.265".

There you go! Call KAMAN there is one in Langley (port kells) and one on Annisis Island. Give them those dimensions and ask for a price. And hey, even if its 75 bucks all in, it lasts forever, so its not that bad
 
another way you could go would be to order SS wire of the proper diameter from a place like The Ringlord in Saskatchewan and then cut the wire to the proper length.
