Hey everyone!
I recently received my hunting license in Bc and before I leave the island in a year I would love to attempt an elk hunt with a guide company. I'm curious if anyone on here has ever used a guide way out on the left coast and if the had, what was it like. I know there are no guarantees but I figure it would help my chances. Along with that, I understand i got to put in for a draw but the person I spoke to mentioned some outfitters take care of that. Just wonder if I'm out to lunch or if its true. My price range is under 4 grand so I'm hoping that will be enough but lots of the don't put prices on the web page. Any info would be great!

The odds of drawing a tag are very long and to hunt through an outfitter using their tag I suspect you are going to spend in excess of $15k

1996 my hunting drew an Island Elk in the Nimpkish Valley.
Called a guide whose initials are JS who has the territory for most of the Upper Island and he was quoted $20 grand US dollars....
You dont win if you dont enter, give it a try.
White River, Sayward, Port Renfrew maybe...
Good Luck.

On the right track here ... its actually around 22 - 25k and then your probably going to be pretty much expected to tip another 5k. I know at least one of the outfitters is booked solid as far out as 2020.

As well as booked , although the outfitters are still shooting some nice bulls they are getting harder to get. Between the Natives and the predators there is a lot of pressure on the big bulls these days

lots of un-cancelled tags from last years LEH........there is more pressure from wolves and deer hunters that are effecting where the elk are roaming, even the guys I know that put in a solid effort came up empty handed......

I think the odds for 6/49 are actually better then a leh elk draw on the island these days

Getting that way

I switched to putting in for Sunshine Coast...no luck yet. Got a Kootenay Cow draw twice, but only a cow the first time. A buddy's Brother got is Roosevelt Elk in a LEH hunt near Sechelt this year, it was huge. Somebody's gotta get the tag it might be you! And I might win the BCWF raffle!LOL

If the tag was 4-5K , I would buy a hunt , but 25,000 is over limit for this cat.

I have lived here 25 years+ ....... Limited entry all right .,........... so far 0 for 25

Lucky (well not in this case)

:)

ya ... your better off paying 4500 - 6k for an elk in Alberta , Guided Roosy hunts on the island are stupid money , Its because the Biggest ones come off the Island. All top 10 Roosy's in Boon & Crockett are from Vancouver Island. Many of the customers have many million's of dollars , some hundreds of millions

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't thank the Hunting Gods that we still have open Elk season for residents only in Saskatchewan. I haven't missed an Elk hunt in 15 years and I think I've shot 10. Once you get a taste of a bugler.... Yer hooked. No matter what man, make an attempt! You gotta try at least!

I wouldn't fill the tag if I got one, Island Elk should be considered endangered species at the rate they are heading.

With greedy land developers buying up TimberWest logged out areas on one side and poachers on the other.
Methinks the future looks bad for Island Elk.

Uhhhhmmm might want to check your facts there. From what I understand , although the big bulls are not as ubundant ... The actual herds have been growing exponentially for years. In fact , although not on the island ... there was a herd that was captured off the Powel river golf course because it was getting out of control , then relocated in Ramsey arm ... that herd has done nothing but grow since it was relocated and they're were no elk in there at all at the time.

Roosevelt Elk numbers are alive and well
