Vancouver Province article

Actually though I responded to the article too, what is really really way more valuable is to go to the government site and respond before Sunday to the proposalsthe government is making:

http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlifeactreview/discussion/toc.html

As hunters we are not going to change the minds of the anti-hunting loonies writing in to the Province any more than they are going to change us.

That is just a public pissing match.

But we can influence the government by commenting on the proposals.

You know what I find surprising is the change in the comments. I have only read the comments from the one fellow who posted before me and below ( I posted as Ken ) and the reason I have not read the others as the first line tells me what I'm likely to encounter reading those posts.

It's quite amazing how the whole tone changes and the PETA types fade into the wood work when there is some intelligent opposition.

Good on all of you who posted.

scary the level of ignorance out there.

it is not just the granola types either, even comments from a bowhunter wanting longer bowhunting seasons at the expence of rifle hunters.

As MD said in post 2, do the BC Enviroment ministry survey first.

This is what I sent:

Thank you for inviting comments from the public. This is true democracy at work.
As a hunter, I welcome the opportunity to comment.

--I am comfortable with the current pricing structure for resident permits, although the new hunter and under age 18 are welcome.

--I would like to see a separate muzzle loader season re-introduced. I used to take part in the muzzle-loader season (one week prior to centrefire) back when you had it.

--For small game, and upland game birds, could you have a reciprocal dael with other provinces, where if I have a BC license, I can hunt in Alberta, and vise versa?

--Could the CORE course be a high school elective subject? As such, there would be no cost for the course itself (although the license fee would still apply)

--I would very much like to see a handgun hunting season introduced. Yes, I am well aware that Federal law would have to be changed to allow the carrying of a handgun in the bush. Perhaps start with single shot only handguns ("wrist rifles") such as the Thompson Center Contender. In spite of what some un-informed will say, HGH is very possible, and many countries have a HGH program.

--No doubt you will hear from many that say we should not have any hunting at all. Be sure to ask them if they are willing to put their money where their mouth is. In other words, are they willing to accept a $50 Outdoors fee, simply to go hiking or wildlife photographing, in order to make up the loss of hunting revenue? It is easy to say others should give up something, the real test is how much is someone willing to give up themselves.

Thank you.

I did send my speal to the gov. although being lazy I just copied what I sent to the paper and sent it to the government. But I thought Tootall's was well written, hopefully as MD and Johnny says more will send their thoughts quickly, hell send somebody elses as long as that's how you feel.

Great to hear, is there anyway one can read the opinions sent to the government?

Also does anyone know if this has been posted on the other forums?

I think the words ' Vancouver Province ' should have been an indication anything slightly right wing or shown to agree with hunting or firearms would not be printed.....Unless you sent in a pic of you holding a rifle in front of a ' smart car' with a rainbow decal on it:rolleyes:
