Vancouver question

Rusty wood trading co.

I haven't been, but judging by their website it might be right up your alley.

Further on Phat Eagle's comment, Rusty's is in Mission. Too far if all you have is half a day.

Italian, Reliable and Lever in Vancouver and DS Tac in New West. With traffic, that's a half day right there.

Edit to add - some mention of shops in Richmond with higher end gear. Not familiar as we left the LML before they set up shop. Good chance of some fancy stuff there. Potentially worth the trip.

Wanstalls(plenty of consignment that's how I got my blackhawk) is probably my favourite followed by reliable, Italian sporting goods( they have a fair bit of consignment) and then international shooting supplies.

It all depends on where the OP is located. If hes downtown, then Mission is pretty far because it takes forever to get out of the downtown core, but if he's in East Van or south Van then it's not that far away. Or he could be in one of the other 10 cities that are called Vancouver when talking about the region as a whole.

OP where abouts in Vancouver will you be? That will help us determine which shops are close and which aren't. From Eagle in Richmond to HiCal and Rusty Wood in mission you are looking at a 90min drive if traffic isn't bad. (One way)

Also, if he did want to go to Rusty Wood, I'm assuming he could call ahead and make sure the guns he wants to check out are in store so he can see them?

Do they have much in the way of used or consignment stuff? That's where my real interests are. I checked their website but didn't see any listings other than the usual run of the mill new stuff.

They don't post their used or consignments on their website. But they usually have several racks full of used firearms. They have several used pistols as well.

Sorry, I'm not a fan.

Should be called MallNijasRUS-The wannabe store

Try and put Dave's on your list. They are a site sponsor here:

https://www.dstactical.com/

While they don't sell guns, and they don't sell ammo (anymore), they have a lot of great accessories, gear, clothes, etc. It is the most interesting experience for visitors in my view.

Canada Ammo does not have a showroom. Site sponsors Reliable, Wanstall's and Eagle are all well worth a visit (lots of distance between those three, esp. Eagle and Wanstall's).

For non-site sponsors: West Coast Hunting is near Eagle in Richmond (experience Richmond's Chinese business district :) ); Tiger is relatively near Wanstall's on the other side of the Pitt River Bridge; Lever is... a bit of a stretch here... relatively near Reliable... and Italian is about equidistant in the opposite direction. There is also DVC if you wanted to rent a gun a shoot while here.

Hey there Sailer723,

It would be our pleasure to have you in the shop, there are wealth of good stores around Vancouver. Not many other cities that have this many real gun stores in driving distance.

As mentioned before a fellow CGNer RL1 did the rounds over a few days and his posts are definitely worth a read.

Also they are a bit further out but a great bunch of people over at Wanstalls.

Enjoy your stay but keep that eastern weather on your side of the country lol!

Fair point, to many once you cross one of the bridges you're in 'Vancouver'. To me Burnaby, Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities aren't Van.

On the OPs point, I've been to Rusty's to pick up powder. Great to deal with but for me it wouldn't make a site seeing list. Wanstalls however will for the 1911s at least.

For me, it depends on who I'm talking to. If its someone local, then I'll just say whatever city I'm referring to, but as soon as I'm talking to someone from outside the lower mainland, I just use Vancouver (or greater vancouver). Unless they live around here, I don't expect them to know where Port Moody is, or Surrey or Delta. Its all Vancouver to an outsider in my books.

Fair enough. I guess those guys gotta get their stuff somewhere.

I got some surplus rain gear there some years ago and the number of zitty looky-loos hovering around the place kind of put me off.

I've been meaning to go to Federal in Seattle too, but in 20 years of going to a trade show there every year for work, I've never gone. Not once.

It's always too late in the day by the time I'm done, then by the third day I just want to go home.

Well, I certainly hear what you are saying, but... that is not unusual. 80% of the industry, here and in the United States, could be seen as falling into that category. I'm just saying... in terms of a visitor to Vancouver... there is nothing here like Collectors Firearms in Houston, TX or anything even remotely similar. What there is, is a bunch of stores selling the same or similar stuff: Remington rifles and shotguns, GLOCK 17's, Beretta 92's, SIG 226's, SKS's, etc. Anything really cool and unique is gone instantly from the stores. Any real prize has to be hunted down online. Dave's offers a bit different experience for the visitor, and is worth a 20min. stop-in at least.

The Dave's staff are good guys. A good percentage of their customers are police, sheriffs, military, corrections, CBSA, etc., and you can see that quite clearly in their stock. Why else would they have all those holsters for S&W 5946, a pistol that has never really been available for individuals in Canada; or holsters for Taser X26, a prohibited weapon that has never been available to individuals in this country; badge wallets with custom department-specific cut outs; body armor, ballistic helmets, and other items they don't sell to the public. Somebody is buying this stuff.

For myself, I've been in it so long at this point, if I want something from 5.11, or Salomon, Arcteryx, or whatever, I just order direct and skip shopping for sizes these days... but if I were visiting somewhere, I'd pop into their local Mall Ninja store for a look-see. I did it when I was in D.C. in the fall. I've been going to Seattle since I was a kid, and I still like to pop in to Federal Army & Navy Surplus when I go there. Nothing wrong with it.

We are happy to have you! keep in mind we are ope tues-fri 9:00-5:30PM sat 9:30-5PM. Lots of Nighthawks, Ed Brown, Ar'ss, cool hunting rifles in stock. Used department is bulking up nicely with a large estate of cool stuff due in within the next week or so.
