I currently live in Vancouver (near oak street bridge) and since there is no gun ranges allowed in Vancouver, we are all faced with the challenge of finding a range.

I currently shoot at Poco but at 40kms and 45min-1hour out, it's not exactly close to home. So where does everyone shoot?
poco? (the closest, "shoot anything" range, still 40 clicks out)
DVC? ($$$)
langley? (5 round limits and no centerfire rifles)
PSA? (.22 and pistols)
vancouver gun club? (trap and skeet)
mission? (would anyone drive this far for a quality range?)
squamish? (far...S2S)

It seems like all ranges has their pitfalls so I'm wondering where everyone goes? I'll be most likely staying with poco but Pacific shooters + vancouver gun club might be a good combo to shoot handguns, rimfires and 22 and trap/skeet. What do you guys think?

EDIT: I can't believe I spelled Vancouverites wrong, shame on me.

I live in poco and am members at DVC and PoCo. Seems like you are just in a bad location.
Get a group of people together to shoot on a weekend and it makes it seem a lot more worth while to have to drive that far.

Langley won't be worth the drive. I like Abby Fish & Game for a 'shoot anything' club, but probably way too far for you.

I live in false creek,Im a member at DVC and TMSA .Between those two great clubs, and some trips up to the shootin pits at Stave lake, all my shootin bases are covered.Plus the occasional trip across the border to Custer sportsmen's club!

So far i just go up to this place up sylvester rd in mission and if you follow the logging about 20mins you can shoot whatever you however you want (being legal). I just take up a table and set up targets and random stuff and shoot it. It makes for a good sat or sunday....but you can always stay the night :D:dancingbanana: But living in langley i would probably go to the mission range because i have heard alot of good stuff about them. :sniper:

I live in South Surrey and shoot out in Poco. There is a range here in Surrey but its and indoor range that only has pistol shooting on wednesday nights and its not very good. Your in a tough location being near the oak street bridge, any range is a long drive for you. I think you'll just have to bite the bullet and have to drive out to poco or the valley if you want to shoot. There is a range in north van but to my knowledge its closing down at the end of the year unless they have figured things out with the GVRD.

i usually go out to sylvester road as well, but im in langley and its a bit of a treck from there. from Van, its a ways.
Im actually thinkin of heading up to sylvester road this weekend but i havent been there for a while. Is it the first left or second left on the logging road that takes you to the pit?

The indoor one in Surrey (http: //sfgc.ca/) you can drop in at for $5 and is 20m handgun or .22 rifle.

PoCo can drop in at for $20, go when you plan to shoot and also check out the lower ranger (.22 rifle & handgun), those are generally really quiet but the center fire rifle range busy busy and people's comfort level there may differ.

Mission you can check out this weekend I believe otherwise not open to the public, can go as a member's guest $20 drop in. Its the one I am joining next year (they dont seem to want to prorate memberships), think it worthwhile commuting out from South Surrey. Heard good things about Abbotsford but their rifle ranger is shorter than Mission.

abbotsford and mission are quite far from where I live. Even port coquitlam is far. I am a student though so a membership for mission will only run my 35 bucks. I just don't see a reason to drive so far. DVC seems nice but its the same distance to poco and I already have a membership at poco so to me, it's a waste of money for drop-in fee.

the semiahmoo fish and game club looks kinda small. I don't like the fact that I can only go one day a week to shoot either and its on a weekday too.

I guess it's poco for now. If PSA doesn't close down, I may consider joining and I can always go to Vancouver gun club for trap/skeet. I still won't have a place to shoot my rifles though...

I live in Vancouver near City Hall and I'm a member at PoCo and Mission. To be honest, since for me both are effectively day trips by the time all is said and done, I wouyld rather the additional drive and shoot in Mission where the people are really good folks and the atmosphere is just more relaxed. Having said that PoCo do offer supervision and allows for a broader range of firearms all to be used on the one range.

No Shooting Areas

The Hunting and Trapping Synopsis 2007-2008 is useful. Check pages 13 and 38.

There are definitely areas near the 99 between West Van and Whistler you cannot shoot in, even beyond the 400m or 1km buffers. But there are definitely areas you can.

Watch for bear and pack out more than you packed in. Like Sylvester Road, there are beautiful spots that have been spoiled by a$$holes and their spent casings and trash.

I have a membership @ mission: 300 yards - thumbs up!
No rapid fire on rifle range- thumbs down :(
No pistol on the rifle range- thumbs down again :(
Poco is a little more tolerant, at least when I've been there... but crowded.

Sylvester pit is always fun...theres camping, fishing and 4x4'ing to be had at teh same time...and its all free!

Mind you the pit is 100yards max, if you're even lucky enough to get that. Fun for plinking.

Respect the area though, its the only free location within reasonable range of the lowermainland, I would hate to see it shut down for wahtever reason.

I have been a member before of DVC. My membership had expired . I tried to renew it. But they said that there is only small limitations about people applying for memberships. How long will I have to wait until I can be able to renew my membership all over again ?

I live in South Delta and shoot at TMSA. Never been to DVC largely due to restriction on centre fire rifles. PoCo is closer to me but its a lot busier during open times and I've seen too many posers who have no business near guns (guests not members). I'll take the longer drive.
