Looking for experienced Vang Comp shooters to answer a few questions. I've read some testimonials and how the system works. What I'm wanting to know is how effective was it in reducing patterns in birdshot - typically the 7.5 and 8 shot variety.

As far as recoil is concerned how effective was the porting in minimizing felt recoil and muzzle rise? Is the system more effective with shorter barrels (12"-14") compared to longer (20" and greater) barrels? I'm considering having it done to both a 14" and a 20" barrel.

Thanks!

I have the treatment on a 20" 870 barrel and can tell you on my gun the patterns are definitely smaller with all shot sizes (but I only shoot it to 25 yards) and recoil is indeed softer. it seems like more of a push than a sharp smack. i'm a believer, mine was done by Casey at TacOrd.

Casey did the VCS treatment on this 590A1 20".
My only experience is with 00Buck due to Range rules. At 25yrds all 9 rnds grouped tight on chest sized targets.

At minimum I would get the forcing cone lengthened and back boring done to the bbl. Do the ports work?….I'm sure they do what they're designed for and look "trick" IMO.

Mine is on the 14" bbl on my PM-5. It recoils quite softle compared to other, non-comp'd shotguns.

My shot patterns are tight, but I seem to have a disparity in POI of shot patterns and slugs... doesn't matter what brand of slug. Not sure if that's due to the porting or what...

Huge difference with birdshot and buckshot. No experience with slugs but it's my go to for 3gun matches when I am using a pump. Before the treatment I could not knock down a b-zone target with birdshot at 25 yards. Now no problem at all.

As far as I know Tac ord is the only gunsmith doing actual Vang comp (trademark registered I believe), but skeet shooters have been getting forcing cones and back boring done for years

So, what's the difference in poi with the two types of ammo?

At 25m my Valtro shoots slugs 6 inches lower than shot... Worse with the Dominion Arms non-rifled slugs.

Again, I don't know if it's the VC that causes this, but I do know I see plastic from the wad grated up in the venting... I'm not sure if this contributes.

I'm planning a Tacord build and am going back and forth on whether to go Vang Comp or not, I'd actually rather *not* have tighter patterns with buckshot but would really like them with birdshot.

Well I'de consider this if the POI with slugs was unchanged.

I shot Bird-shot mostly but pony up with slugs while out in the bush for predator defence. I ain't a greatest shot anyways never mind rolling the dice.
