Vanguard 22-250 base and rings

I have a vanguard 22-250 topped with standard weaver 2 piece base and rings, my scope is a bushnell banner 4-12x40. I have the scope set back as far as I can but It still not back far enough.

Looking for suggestions on what other people are using for rings and bases on their vanguards.

Leupold offers a weaver style base called Rifleman. It positions the front scope ring as far back as possible on the front receiver ring. They work well for moving scopes rearward esp on a long action.
 
Or weaver makes extension rings but I believe only in medium or high. You can use one on the front or rear or get both. You might get 1" of movement.

Don't forget that any 2pc M700 bases will fit that rifle, but you will need to use a M700 short action one pc base if you go that route.

The previous suggestion for a one pc base is a good one as it will afford you unlimited flexibility in scope placement. Weaver makes a good one with multi slots at a very reasonable price.

On Vanguard's I use a few different set ups.
Have these (700) on one.

I use Remington 700 brand base/rings on 2, and an EGW rail on another.
*** Forgot to add, EGW rails have extended front ends, so I usually end up cutting an inch off as the front bell of the scope hits it and leaves you in the same boat, not enough rear adjustment***
700 Talley type are probably the easiest route. Here is a 3-10 Elite Short Action on a 243.

I have the weaver one peice base on my rifle and like it alot. It does give a ton of options for ring location. One thing to be aware of is that it will make it slightly harder to pop rounds into the magazine as it bridges the top of your action. I have the dbm kit. So it hasnt been an issue for me. But I can see myself getting frustrated with it if I had to get 4 rounds in past that base. Just a thought.

Those are std M700 weaver bases.

Here's some pics of some weaver style bases for reference to where they place the ring on the front receiver ring. I had these posed on another thread until photowreckit messed it up.

That is an excellent reference for me!! Thank you very much!!! I was able to snag the last 40 a cabelas had in Regina!!
 
Hi Chris,
looking at your pictures i noticed you have a cheapo set of rings for that scope. Please don't take this an insult and this is just a suggestion....but if you invest a bit into some better quality rings your groups will likely improve. Perhaps some talley lightweights or burris zee rings??

Your scopes connection to your rifle is a critical piece to the accuracy puzzle. Good quality rings a bases helps build confidence in your rig and that leads to confidence in your shooting and hence better groups at the range or game in your freezer.

This I just my opinion. Your vanguard is a good rifle, add a set of good quality rings and bases... it and you deserve them.

Yup ......... Good quality rings properly installed on Weaver bases have never let me down. The Weaver bases system is simple, reliable, flexible and cost efficient, but good rings are a must.
