Vanguard re-bore to 416

I would REPLACE the barrel my self rather then REBORE for this project ! WBee Vangaurd are NOT known to to be the BEST ! My S1 Vanguard was a 7 MM Rem Mag and did not shoot well with any load ! jmho RJ

I have owned about 8 Vanguards, all but one were good shooters, the re-bore could be less money, but I think the magazine box and bolt stop would need work, my caliper shows the mag box just shy of 3.6" probably too short, I think if I went with a re-barrel I would probably go 416 Ruger or 458 win, it would probably avoid some extra work.

Prophet has two beauty CZ's in 416... I would look that direction and save yourself a ton of hassle.

I do not like CZ or Brno rifles, they do not shoulder well, for me they feel like 2x4s, I have Vanguards in 9.3x62 and 375 Ruger among others, they are all in Boyd's laminate Prairie Hunter or Bell and Carlson stocks and they suit me. I realise liking a push feed action in these calibres puts me in a minority here but I also prefer Husqvarna 1900s over the 1600s.

I had 2 others Both S2;s The 240 Wbee Shot Very Well ! the 257 Wbee not Great ! Anyhow -They did make a Vanguard Dangerous Game Rifle in 375 H&H for a while . RJ

I am curious, the Vanguard in 375 H and H must have a longer magazine, the few I have seen were a step up in price but they also had sights.

After speaking with a gun smith, I am thinking about re-boring a stainless heavy barrel Vanguard to 416 Remington, any reason not to?

You asked :) ..... I think you'll have a rifle that you will have spent a lot of money on, will be expensive to shoot and not be much fun to shoot due to excessive recoil. You will soon tire of this rifle and stop shooting it with the realization of how little you will get in return (when sold) for your investment in the rifle and loading components.

A 375 H&H or Ruger would be a far better choice for Canada for practical reasons.

458 Win Mag will KILL better then a 416 Rem Mag ? How SO ? RJ

It will! Because of science!

But really, it’s fatter and slower, it will perform differently, but you can also plug in data from the two into the Taylor knock down calculator for terminal effect and compare.
