Have a few questions about the plastic stock on the S1 vanguards. I have read that they are a flimsy stock and can contribute to poor accuracy. What I am wondering is where specifically do the issues arise. Is it immediate as in poor groups or can they show up through variations of hot and cold weather shooting. More specifically sighting in at one temperature and then hunting in much colder temps.Or if they shoot good then do they continue shooting good in various conditions? It will never be in very hot weather, mainly from 15 down to -25

I have a vanguard with the cheap stock that groups very well for me. Only had it for better then a year and two hunting seasons.Sighted in before both seasons in above freezing temps and had 7/8 and 3/4 moa groups. Plenty fine with me and want it to stay this way from above zero temps to -25 .

Problem is I only shot one deer last year and never fired a shot in this years hunting season, and never really sighted in afterwards in the freezing temps. I am thinking of replacing the stock with a B&C stock to keep the accuracy but kinda wondering if it is necessary.

Guess I am looking for answers on the characteristics of the cheap injection molded stocks.Only reason I am asking now is there is a sale on the stocks that ends soon and would like to jump on it but if there is a chance its not necessary I might hold off.

I am sure only through testing of the rifle in all weather conditions can give the proper answer but thought I would get a few opinons anyways. Thanks

Oh 1 more thing....is possible to actually go backwards and lose the accuracy I have by changing stocks?

The biggest issue with the S1 stocks was they "looked cheap". There was a known issue of some warping on some stocks (which kinda kills the selling point of synthetic over wood and was/is not unique to Wby - some of the worst warps I have ever seen are on Remington plastic stocks) and they had a crappy trigger.

Since the S2's have been around for almost half a dozen years now your S1 must be at least that old. If it doesn't appear to be warped and still shoots straight you probably don't have anything to worry about.

If you are only using the rifle occasionally for a bit of deer hunting I wouldn't invest the money in a new stock if you only need "minute of bambi", which if we are being honest, means about 3 MOA is "accurate enough" out to 300'ish yards.

Of course you could watch EE for a used/take off S2 stock - much better looking and holds nice and will direct swap and way cheaper than most other options...

Thanks for the reply. Yes it will just be used for the 2 weeks of deer hunting and to be honest it will never be shot much more then 300 yards.I hunt from treestands all the time and 300 is becoming a long shot.

If the main issue is with warping from the heat then I can`t see me ever running into any issues. Thanks again
