Vanguard sporter feeding issues

I hope this is the right section so I have out it in 2...I bought a new vanguard sporter a couple of weeks ago and took it to the range only to figure out that when the bolt picked up a round from the internal mag it would push the round sideways jamming it into the opposite side of the chamber completely jamming everything up...so I took it back and got another of the exact same rifle...I picked it up day before yesterday...I went to try it out and found that it was doing the exact same thing...as soon as the second to last round gets pushed forward by the bolt it binds up...I can even take the bolt out and push it forward with my finger and the round goes sideways into the side of the chamber...has anyone else had this happen and if so what could it be? I am going to call Weatherby on Monday and see what they will do to stop me from going to a savage...but I would like some idea what the problem could be so I can better communicate to Weatherby

What chambering is this rifle?
I have Vanguards in 270, 30-06, 300WSM and 338 Win Mag.
All feed just fine.
Strange that yours is a problem.
Eagleye.

Is the follower binding or dragging along the wall somehow? I have owned Vanguards, including a brand new Sporter like yours and never once had a problem like the one you describe.

In fact, my Weatherby's and Remington floorplates have fed ammunition flawlessly, as compared to my semiautomatics and bolt action detachable magazines.

I don't know...all I know is that I push the bolt forward or use my finger and all of the rounds that are getting picked up on the left hand side move forward and then kick to the right and stop completely with the round only going into the chamber a little...over 3/4 of the round is still sticking out and a line marked in the tip of the bullet..I will try to take some picks or a video tomorrow to show better

both factory winchester and federal rounds do it but only coming from the left side...I am one of those people that has this kind of weird thing happen to me all the time but never in a positive way

Ive also owned about 4 and my go to coyote gun is my Vanguard in .243, never had this issue or any issue for that matter. Maybe take it back and try one more, they're usually a solid little gun.

Cheers!!

I own 4 vanguards in 300wm, 30'06, 270, and 223 with exactly zero failures to feed.

Sorry to hear of your luck. No idea what could cause that.

Have you removed the action from the stock and made sure the steel box around the mag is installed correctly?

I haven't done a thing yet because this is the second one in a row that has done the exact same thing and I want to be able to get weatherby to make it better through a warranty...I want to see what they say since I have already returned 1 and tried a second only to have it fail...what will they do so that I give them a third chance and don't go to a savage or a tikka...why should it cost me extra $$ and time because I chose to spend my hard earned cash on a weatherby...I realize most people have had good luck with their weatherbys but I am known as the person that if it can go bad it almost always will...it will be interesting to see if they will stand by their products

Well if you're that type of person I would not recommend going with a savage...

Every one I have touched has had some kind of factory problem.

Never with a howa/weatherby. Their quality control is obviously superior to remington/savage.

It's evident in the fit and finish.

Seriously, just remove the stock and make sure the magazine box is in correctly. It won't void the warranty. The manual talks about how to do that for regular cleaning.

It could be something you're doing too. Hard to say without seeing what you're doing or what's happening.

I did a search online and couldn't find a soul anywhere else in the world who posted about this problem. You've had it with 2 rifles. Have you considered that they may be functioning as designed and it could be an organic problem?

Just sayin'

I searched the web before posting and found that no one else has had the issue either...on the first gun is wasn't me that noticed it...it was a buddy that knew more than me that pointed out the markings on the casing and the metal filings on the inside of the breach...it is pretty hard to screw up loading rifle and closing the bolt...I have had lots of other bolt action rifles so I have some idea how to do it.

Some good points above and tinkering may well solve the problem.
The folks where you bought the rifle should be able to replicate this issue for themselves again by cycling the action again. Seems to me this should not be up to you to solve but their issue to solve. You should be leaving their shop with a rifle in hand that has no issues feeding or otherwise. I would take it back again. Pain in the butt for sure either way!

I'm sorry to hear you are having these problems but hope you can get it cleared up soon. If you've never had one of these out on the range or field you are sure in for a treat, especially in the accuracy department. Good luck!
