Vanguard SUB-MOA Varmint - I'm Perplexed

I haven't heard too much about these rifles. I have to admit that the Krieger Criterion sure sounds attractive however for the life of me I can't figure out why they went with a 1:12 twist for the 223 rem.

Can anyone set me straight on this?

It should shoot the off the shelf varmint ammo quite well. I have a 1:12 ruger and it loves inexpensive 45 gr ammo.

because it's a varmint rifle by name, design, and intent?

and most people don't shoot varmints with 80 grain VLDs?

Bingo. It is a varmint rifle where speed trumps all. Criterion are just Kreiger's button-rifled line, not their cut rifled match grade.

A Tom Sarver at Thunder Valley range, Ohio, on the &th July, shot a 1.403 inch, 5 shot group in 2007. It stands to this day as the record smallest group at 1000 yard IBS record in the Light Gun class.
In 1996, Canada's own Dr. Jim Thompson won the F-class championships with a .223 chambered rifle.

Long distance bullets for 223 start at 69 grains, and to stay stable past 900 yards, usually require at least 75 grain bullets.
Edit: I think you know where I'm going with this..........to clarify, I choose disbelief if sniper21 meant to say, 1.5 inches at 915 yards.
