Varget 8 pounders - who has 'em?

CanadaAmmo has D4350 which is great and super affordable.

Also the D4064SSC is very close to Vargets burn rate and is half the price. Not as temp stable however but still an excellent performer.

I had a bunch but didnt really get into it and sold it off. The variance between each lot was more significant than your typical H4350 or varget. Do you know how sensitive the d4350 is to temp?

After using D4064 I won't even go back to Varget, 1/2gr faster with my lot then Varget, single digit ES, it's good powder.
If you want Varget Higginson is a good bet.

Yes, I too replaced most of my 308 loads with d4895. The 4064 is probably as good as it would meter a bit better. But that I use in my 260, 30/06, 6.5/284. Then there is the D4350 aka RL 19. Perfect for the 270, 7mag, 300 mag.

Varget is tough to find and expensive. And has poor lot to lot consistency ime

Good luck! Varget has been unobtainium for months. When I spoke to Higginsons last week, the lady told me not to hold my breath through the end of this year and beyond for Varget, Retumbo, H1000, etc..

I remember the last Varget shortage! Was all but gone for about three years. I have a 10lb supply for now but don't use it much anymore as long as I have good loads for the Made in Canada Dominion powders that are so much cheaper and shoot just as well.

I have seen a few around. Just be prepared to pay a premium.

Not sure if they will ship though.

As for the Dominion powders. I won't buy varget or IMR again.

Here's what I've noticed with D4064SSC. There's not much difference in speed when it's warm. My average (30 shots) at 29c was 2721fps. Today it was 10 degrees cooler, 19c. I shot 3 different batches today. Two with 30 shots, and one with 40 shots. My average was 2718fps. Three feet per second difference in speed for a ten degree (cooler) difference in temperature.

I'll continue to evaluate this powder in the coming months as temperatures lower.

3 fps difference is meaningless.
