Varget addiction!!!!

My 2 cents

Several years back, I was testing powders for my Rem 700 PSS in .308

It came down to two powders. Varget and Reloder 15. The bullet was Sierra's 175 BTHP MK

Both powders gave great velocities and good 5 shot groups. But the kicker is when each would give me a bad group. The RL 15 loads, a good group was one ragged hole at 100Y. A bad group was 5 individual holes, but they were all in the 10 ring at the point of aim. Varget's bad groups, the point of impact would shift high the the left.

So I use RL15 for my several .308s, .223, 7.5X55 Swiss.

A friend uses RL15 for his .303brit and 8x57 loads with good results.

If people out there like Varget, hey that's great. Leaves more RL 15 for me.

Not too surprising...these two powders are ballistic equivalents. You can just about substitute one for the other grain for grain.

I love the smell of Varget.
I found an 8lb. jug.
Should last me for a little while.
I've used it for .223 with great results
and currently use it for loading 6mmbr.
A friend used Varget for his 6mmbrx ,but switched to
Benchmark and likes the results with Benchmark.
I may have to give Benchmark a test.

YES try benchmark for lighter bullet in your .223....

If a powder load is shooting....it will always shoot.

If the group all of a sudden opens up or moves around it's either the barrel going south, throat erosion (which means chasing the lands with the bullet) or shooter error.



Switch that around and that's the same way I feel

If the group all of a sudden opens up or moves around it's probably because your overheating your light contour barrel...........

Varget is over-rated.

H-4895 works better in .223 rem

I took an unofficial pole of fellow .308 shooters that had good to great success at comparitively long range with TR and F-class shooters.
The one common demonimator was the use of Varget powder with better than 85% of the guys/gals I asked of this.

The first powder I picked up got really good results with it so I see no need to change

Many powders are fine. Just get one you like that doesnt cost too much.

Yes but .308 is the only choice the Palma. .223 and .308 are the only choices under DCRA rules for target rifle. And .308 is the only choice for Target Rifle at Bisley.

I have found Varget burns cleaner than IMR powders. I have been using it in both .223 and .308 since it hit the Canadian market. I see no reason to change.

You make load devellopement at -20 and you shoot target at +30... No difference, the beauty of Varget... JP.

H4895 or varget both are excellent powders for my 22-250

I like it as well but the damn extruded powder just makes a huge mess in my Lee press and my Dillon 650...

Once I finally run out of varget I'm looking into a ball powder that is similar to see if it will stop 'raining' powder on my presses lol.
