Is anyone using varget for their 30-06 loads?.. I just got some and will be using it behind 165gr BTSP interlocks with Either CCI 200 rifle primers or Winchester WLR.. I was using H380 before and was getting some pretty tight groups at 100 with it...

Ive used it with bullets up to 165 grain. Its a top choice for lighter loads like 110-125 grainers, as is RL15.

In my opinion, the universal .30-06 load for all actions and rifles is 50 grains Varget behind a 165 or 168-grain bullet.

Many consider 4350 the ultimate powder for bolt guns, but it is less than ideal for autos. Varget works with everything.

This is the standard load I use for my Garand. It does not beat up the brass or the action, and is exceptionally accurate when using a target bullet. I know of some who use this load for match shooting. It should give between 2,750 and 2,800 fps with a 165-grain bullet out of a 22-inch barrel.

I'd consider it a "control load" when starting to load for a new '06. It's virtually guaranteed to give good results. If this one doesn't work, then something is wrong with the rifle or the scope -- or the shooter.

I tried it this spring but with heavier 180 gr bullets and got bad results ...
I had to go with IMR 4350 to get great results.
So 165 may work well with Varget but dont waste your time with heavier bullets

Varget and 30.06

I always try the powders developed for cartridges you are reloading, the big powder companies have invested huge amounts of time and money in controlled labs to produce the best results. Once I have found a combination that works well then I play with every thing else.

I tried all kinds of powder for .30-06:
Varget,
N550
Re22
H4831
H4350
IMR4064
AA3100
and I have to say for bullets around 150-165 IMR4064 works best.
