I have been useing 25gr varget for 69gr bullets out of my 223 with good results. I was just wondering if you guys have tried it with 55gr bullets as well or am I better to use something like H335.

I am getting my info from the hodgins reloading data centre stickied in the reloading section here. (what a great sight)

Also any good advise on a load for my 55gr V-max bullets using varget or H335 , I am shooting out of a 1-9 twist 20inch barrel.

cheers,
Justin

anybody? I know it hasn't been long but I want to do some loading tonight. Just not sure what powder to use. the data centre says I can use both I would like to use the one that people find works better for that bullet weight. I will be shooting between 100and 300 meters.

thanks

Why don't you load up a batch using both powders and see what it likes best?
H335 does seem to be a good powder for your application though.

Varget max load with 55gr Nosler Balistic Tips 3420fps in 26" 9 twist 700 just over 1"at 300 y, lighting bolt on Hogs.

what about H335?

I shoot 55 grain Hornady bulk bullets behind 25.2 grains of H335
with excellent results in my stevens 200.
I seat them out of the canular groove to an overall length of 2.24.
with a light crimp.
This gives me an extremely tite group at 100 yards, (size of loonie)
and can consistantly bust clays at 200 yards.
this is a coyote rifle so this is more than exceptable to me.
This is what works for me in my gun.
Play with loads in .3 grain incrimants, then when you find the most accurate
play with overall length ,then no crimp, then light crimp, then heavier crimp
all the while watching for preasure signs.
take your time shooting, off a good rest with at least 20 seconds between shots as to not get the barrel hot.
