Varget in a Dillon 550B?

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody here has tried using running Varget in a Dillon 550B Progressive unit? It would be a lot faster to reload rifle rounds if I could simply use my Dillon.

Does the Varget meter out well in the Dillon?

What kind of a difference would I expect to get in charge weights? Would I be able to maintain +/- .2 grains on average?

Yes, you should do. 0.1 grains no.

I use my 550 with powder measure for hunting and plinking loads, as well as the limited service rifle I shoot, and it is fine.
+/- .2 with Varget is about where you will be in my experience.

It would work ok. If you switched to a ball powder, it would be bang on, every timer.

I haven't tried Varget, but +/- 0.2 grain extreme spread is fairly typical with other extruded powders I have tried with the powder measure on my 550. You will likely get similar results out of most other powder measures. This is probably fine for most purposes outside of very long-range shooting. Consider that thrown charges are the norm in short-range benchrest competition.
