for the life of me i can't find data for varget powder, 180 grain for my 300wsm, anyone out there got some??????

My Hornady handbook didn't have Varget listed for any bullet weights in .300 WSM. WIN 760 and IMR 4350 powders worked well with all bullet weights for Hornady. I also checked the Hodgdon reloading center online but they only listed Varget for 110 Grain to 165 Grain bullets. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. i have a little 4350 left but i was told that varget was a good all around powder but like all you said, can't find data for bullets over 165grain
I think Varget is far too quick in burn rate for a WSM.
FWIW, when I run some quick numbers in QuickLoad, using a 180gr SGK (kind of a standard jacketed bullet) 60gr of Varget is about as high as you'd want to go ACCORDING TO THE PROGRAM...
This would have to be lower yet if you were using stiffer bullets like a Partition or Barnes..
This only gives you a load density around 92%.
A load of about 68gr of H4350 gives you a slightly compressed charge, better pressure curve and more velocity.

Tad bit too fast for the 300 in any configuration WM or WSM.
yeah what everyone else said..unless they are really light bullets...i've got a lee reloading book and it lists varget for use with bullets up to 165gr and for 165gr is says to start with 54 grs and max load 57.5...doesn't look like nearly the optimal powder...maybe try Reloader 19 for 180's.

Varget is used for some heavier bullets but maybe not in the calibres that you are looking for. It is listed for some loads for the 45/70 and right now its one of the top powders I've been using.
I also ran the numbers on quickload, it is possible to use varget but your pressure curves will be close to max, and it would not take much more than a hot day, or a wet case in the rain to cause problems.
I use varget extensively, and have great loads with `175gn, and 180gn bullets in my 308, but I would not use it in a magnum case with a bullet of that wt..
I have had great results with H1000 for 180 bullets in my 7mmWSM, the recoil is not bad, and the accuracy is excellent, I have also had excellent results with H1000 in a 300WinMag, and 6.5-270WSM. I think it is one of the best powders I have used for these magnum cases.
