Varget substitute.

Quickload has a 100% load density of Varget being 101% with 4166, using the exact same charge weight. It holds true in the 223 too

I’ll have to pass on the 4166. With Varget I’m already having to re-seat my bullets after a couple of days of sitting on the bench. Some of the bullets work their way out as much as .008” due to the highly compressed load. I use a 8” drop tube and a vibrator on the side of the case when I charge them, switching to a more dense powder might be better just for ease of loading.

I can understand now why you want a exact substitute for Varget, one that features all the great benefits you have mentioned here.

You must’ve missed this part, where I say nothing at all about an exact substitute.

I should add, it’s already a heavily compressed load, so the substitute will have to be the same or slightly less bulky.

Comprehension is key!

As for 4166 I briefly researched it and recalled it used lower charge weights than Varget. So I checked Hodgdon's and sure enough in .223 Rem with 69 SMK @2.235" OAL Varget charge weights are higher.
Varget is 24.0 to 26.0 with 26 listed compressed.
4166 is 21.5 to 24.0, not listed as compressed.
Varget does list a higher velocity however and if you're highly compressed I'd hazard a guess you may be around max? If so 4166 may or may not fill your needs but should fix the compressed load issue while retaining a lot of the good things about varget.
