Prices on these componets continue to amaze me. I still have some old cans from whn I started out over 40 years ago, some have price tags in the $1.95- 2.25 range per pound. Thats US dollars. Talk about inflation!

Back "then" c.1967 (H)4831 was a buck a pound, CIL Target loads $ 2.00 a box, coffee 10 cents, leaded "high-test" gas 27 cents a gallon (not quite 6 cents/litre and a new Z-28 Camaro a little over $ 3000.

And your wage back then was????

This rule of thumb always seems to work for some weird reason.

A decent automobile cost anywhere from 80% to 100% of your before taxes annual wage.

A decent house costs anywhere from 80% to 100% of 5 years wages.

Stats Cananda puts Canada's average wage for 2008 at about $41000/year.

Lets see a good truck or car......$35-40K ( no gps, chrome that, and guchi, just decent)
A good average house.........$200K

Of course places like GTO and Van Kong are outta this world for housing, but on a national average.... it sure seems to work pretty close.

BTW 40 years ago what did a car and a house cost???
