Varget

How much is a small tub of Varget over there?

I think its our 2208, although a lot cheaper there than here... an its made 2 hours down the road... WTF

I found that IMR3031 gave me a result very close to Varget and you load smaller amounts. That was shooting a savage target rifle with 50 gr a max. and it was open field gopher shooting at between 150 and 200+ yards.
 
sorry i should have added the caliber. i shoot the savage in .223 and a BSA .222. using IMR3031 with 50 gr bullets. very happy with the results. 23 gr IMR 3031 in the .222 and 25 in the .223.
Just got a 22-250 and will start by loading 33 gr. IMR 3031 behind the 50s. i will be building a load for the 22-250 so will try many combos.
 
Varget is indeed the powder called AR2208 in Australia, within lot-to-lot variance.

I just got a 22-250 thursday. I have a bunch leaded up with varget( I only use it in the 223 and have a bunch) and 50gr tnt, 53gr vmax, 55gr nosher varmagedon tipped, as well as berger 60gr varmint fb.
 
i also got my 22-250 just this week. (Winchester M70 XTR). have no brass nor the dies yet ( en route). I have had many Savage .223s and only used IMR3031 for the trials. found that one in particular loved 68 or 69 gr. Sierras. and the other 75 gr bullets. Hated lighter ones like 55s. Loaded a few to try different weights with Varget at a buddy's place. Actually the tests showed very little difference so i used my IMR 3031 as i get more loads per pound also. Love the 3031 if you have the patience to find the guns favourite load. No difference in accuracy found even in the winter shoots. but to each thier own. and IMR 3031 can almost be found on any distributor's shelf.
 
Haven't seen 3031 here in a long time. I picked up a savage model 14 stainless with fluted barrel. Put a vortex viper 4-16x44 on it. I was going to get a winchester or cz but the 1:12 twist was more appealing. I picked up some hornady and winchester brass, redding dies for it.

I called Lawrys earlier today and was told they are now all out of 8 lb jugs of Varget, said they just got their shipment in and are now out except for some 1 lb cans.
