Variable power scout scope...do they exist?

:) just responding in a hostile manner to a passive-aggressive post. Sorry for the attempted high jacking.

My google search came up with nothing. Handgun scopes only really. There are shotgun scopes that have iirc 8 inches of relief.

The market must not be big enough.

... I'm not sure how practical a constant 4x scout scope would be. I also tend to shoot with both eyes open but for quick shots I think it would be a little difficult to adapt...a little too much for those quick shots. ...

Yes, you might be wrong. I'm not sure how much it varies with individuals but I used a fixed 4x optic extensively from close quarters snap shooting to more deliberate applications beyond 300m, normally shooting with both eyes open and had no problem. That was the SUSAT on the SA80, so it was mounted at the more conventional distance from the eye. We weren't trained to shoot with both eyes open, it was just something I found I could do so I did it. If I do get to try a K4 in the "scout" mounting I'll know for sure.

Perhaps that is the new model or version of Leupold scout scope they are coming out with this year. I have seen it on a american scout rifle board, so it's around.

I just bought two 2.5 FXII Leupold scout scopes. When I was looking around I was told they are bringing in new model so maybe it is that one you are looking for.

I had a Leupold FXII fixed 4x power on my Ruger Scout rifle for last hunting season and while 4x power was good, eye relief was not and I had to mount it much farther back then I like or wanted too.

I'm just waiting on my QRW rings to come in the mail and I'll get both my scout rifles ruger and savage set up.

I think you're right, the variable power Leupold Scout scope hopefully will be available to Canadians shortly. Perhaps, this will be a roll out as the Canadian Ruger Gunsite rifles are available... which is now. If you look at the Gun Talk Television review of this rifle (links below) you will see many of them have the Leupold variable powered Scout scope. Check out parts 1 to 4 (top 4 links) once you click on the following link.

You can easily see the difference in length between the fixed and variable scout scopes in these video and also on this site here:

Again, this scope seems like what I "need" but hopefully the eye relief "sweet spot" doesn't move drastically with the variable.

Leatherwood has a 2-7 LER (scout) scope. I've had one on my M14 for almost 2 years. After about 1000 rounds the zero began to wander a bit. Called up the vendor (site sponsor Wolverine) and they said to send it back for a fix or replace, no problem. Thanks Rob! That was a couple of weeks ago so I haven't got it back yet but it has worked pretty well for me from 25 to 150m. One of the events I shoot is a 50m combat shoot. 3 seconds to shoulder and fire. I use about 4x and the target comes up just fine. For the slow fire round at the same distance I can dial it to 7x and take my time. With an LER scope you need a good cheek weld though, there isn't as much room for error like a close scope.
Pretty sure it was around $200.

This month's Buns and Alamo has a bit about Leopold's new variable scout scope. Currently only available thru Leopold custom shop at the factory. Google and call Leopold and they'll fill you in. Might even give you an idea who might get them in here. Good luck.

I will have to look at the latest issue.. I've contacted Leupold regarding the availabilty of this scope and they recommended a Canadian company. I've left messages but nobody has returned my calls.
