So I'm looking to jazz up my cz858 with a holographic sight. I had the Kobra red dot in mind. 4 reticles and they are quite tough from what I hear. I think they'd look great on a cz858 too.

My question is, how should it be mounted? I'd like to discuss the various mounts I've seen around the internets.
_____
Option A:
Tactical Hand Guard from vz58.net

Pros:
I can add other stuff to it later (lights, grips, etc)
Looks #####in'

Cons:
It's 300 dollars plus shipping and tax
I have to take it apart to clean the gun (will I lose zero?)
_____
Option B:
Scout Mount from wolverinesupplies.com

Pros:
Looks like straight forward install
Affordable

Cons:
I have to take off my rear sight (if my optic ever goes down im hooped)*
_____
Option C:
Black Tactical Handguards from wolverinesupplies.com

Pros:
Affordable and comes with a pistol grip too
I can mount a forward grip and other crap

Cons:
Looks like crap
Pretty sure I'll lose zero when I clean.
_____
Option D: (this is the one im really interested in)
There were a few people on CGN that made a few mods to their rifles in order to fit an AK side rail mount to the rifle.

Pros:
I can mount different optics for AKs (look up kalinkaoptics.com)
Not a lot of people have this kind of mount.

Cons:
No idea how to do it
Price?
What parts do I need?

Anyways, I'd like to hear what you guys have to say.

Thanks,

Dave

Notes:
Option B - The Scout mount has a built in groove that allows you to still use the iron sights with the optic attached. There's no slouches working at the Scout Mount company. However, you still need to remove it to clean the rifle. Reports from CGNers indicate that zero is typically retained upon reattachment (only one case where this wasn't true).

Option D - It'll cost you somewhere in the ballpark of $100-150 for the drilling and tapping of screw holes into the reciever. Then it'll cost another $25 or so for a rail (which you'll have to add thickness to in order to overcome the ridge along the receiver where the bolt slides back and forth). Then you'll have to spend another $150 for the actual mount. As far as I know, there's no Canadian suppliers of these mounts, so you'll have to import them from the US, so don't expect the process to be hassle free.

Overall, Option B is the cheapest and Option D is the most expensive and time consuming, but definitely the most solid option.

So, can I not just bring one in from Kalinka for around 50 dollars?

There were a few people that did this themselves so I'd love to hear from them.

If you guys are looking for POSP mounts and scopes you should check out East Wave. They are based out of Ontario, I bought a red dot sight from them a while back. They ship direct from Russia.

Cheers

Not too sure about these guys, here's their description of a 30 mm tube-type red dot:

"Waterproof automatic Red Dot Collimator rifle sight scope PK 01 for AK and Weaver. The sight has an outer aluminium alloy's hull. It's filled with azote for preventing internal misting of lenticles at large gang of temperatures. The sight has a very sharp laying mark."

I sure as hell would not want my lencticles misted!

i have done option B before and i even mod my HG so i wouldnt have to remove the rail while cleaning but my eye is not suited for red dot so its scope is what i need .

im trying option D, i got a posp scope from east wave (below) for $160, its a small scope 6x24 , i didnt like the looks of a big scope on a small light rifle like the cz858.

The current tactical hand guards are sold out and I'm not planning to have anymore made.

There are two new hand guards that will be available in the near future.

Both have a quick detach top I’ve posted pics of both of them in the VZ thread several pages back.

I once had my lenticles misted. It took weeks for the sores to heal - I had to get my wife to apply the special ointment because I couldn't quite reach in there.

Kasat made a no gunsmithing mount for his cz. Mounted a side mount from the buffer between the stock and the gun to the front lower hand guard retaining pin.

has anybody ever mount these posp scope directly to the sides of a cz858? im from old school and would like my scope mount to the side but having a hard time placing it in the center, also the rail and the receiver are too skinny to tap and screw. any suggestion would be appreciated.

What some folks have been doing is welding a thing strip of steel to the side of the reciever and using that to attach a side mount. I was looking at my CZ 858 tonight and notice that it would be a great idea but the serial number would be obscured
