Varmint cartridges

300WM makes a mess and there is not enough thread to sew up that hole :)

I have no issue with that at all.

PSSST, get a 204. Granted the 22250 has more HP at longer ranges but 500 and under, that little 20 cal dart is damn impressive. I sold all my other Varmint Cals, and now maintain a stable of 204's They are just that good.

If I need more punch, out comes the 65 Creed. Buh Bye Wylie!!!!

For the guys shooting 6mm/243 bore stuff, what sort of loads are you using? I've got a 243win I bought for coyote hunting, but haven't gotten around to working up a load yet.

87gr V-Max in front of a stiff load (47.1gr) of IMR 7828SSC. Great load if you don't want hides or like sewing unless you are shooting them at 300 yds plus:)

The old standby 222 or wildcat 20 Extreme which is a 222 shortened and necked down. 21.2 gr IMR 8208 and either the 40 or 55 grain Berger. Have not shot it past 400 but it is sub moa to 400. The 55’s don’t get tossed around by the wind very bad for longer shots

What? Am I the only one who uses 5.6x50R?

Glad to meet another “user” :d Sweetheart of a little round.

223 is prob the best 22 cal to own if you only own one. Especially for high volume shooting. Regret selling my 204 tho. That was my fav cartridge for shooting the really light bullets

With my .220 Swift using 55 SP's, I am zeroed 2" high at 100 yards, which is 2" low at 300 yards and only 5" low at 350 yards... I can hold dead on from 0 - 300 yards and aim at the spine at 350 yards, and a fist over the back at 400 yards... this makes it much quicker to get on target when a coyote appears, usually briefly.

Zeroed at 200 yards and using 55 sp's @ roughly 4000 fps using a A-bolt in 223 wssm, I am getting very similar results.
Still playing with the loads.

I loaded up some 35gr vmax's (.22 hornet bullets) at about 3500 in my .223 and they shot alright, they would blow the front out of a pumpkin and not go though the back side. I've also had that kind of effect with the varmint grenades.

My biggest concern is over penetration as i hunt small lots and farm land. Cant go to far without having a farmstead or house or hiway behind the target. We get idiots here shooting 270s cuz its legal but they often use the same ammo they bought for their moose hunt.
I love the vmax as they come apart so easily at high speed and work well. A barnes tsx would bounce across a frozen concession block. You plains hunters have it good. Every year i must let several coyotes live simply because i wont risk putting a bullet across a hiway or in the direction of a building. I started using a scattergun gun more and more for coyotes. Still working on loads for my 223. It loves sierra 55gr hp game kings but ive yet to really test them on animals. Going to try nosler 40gr varmageddons once i get a chance to load them
