I'm looking for someone to go varmint/predator calling with between
Christmas and New Years in the Edmonton area. Reasonably warm
weather permitting of course. I'm a newbie at this so take that into
account.

Bill,

Try "Old Strathcona!":D

Seriously though, at one time I used to go out to the Blackfoot Grazing Reserve. That was several years ago, so I do not know if they still allow that but I beleive they are in the phone book.

Also drive out to the county of Leduc. Meet some farmers!

Kind Regards
Brian

Thanks Brian

The only problem with "Old Strathcona" (eg. the P.O.) is that
the "yotes" shoot back. ha ha

Being new to calling I thought that I could learn some tricks
from someone who has hunted before. Kind of speed up the
learning curve.

Blackfoot doesn't allow hunting for coyotes any more.
Try here: http://srd.alberta.ca/lands/usingpublicland/recreation/accessagriculturalpublicland/maps.aspx
Which will get you to a gov't site where you can find grazing leases and contact numbers. That'll get you a tonne of spots close to Edmonton.

And if you can't get somebody to take you out, just get out there yourself. I've been teaching myself this year -- only gone out twice for about 1/2 an hour each time, (plus a couple times calling while deer hunting) and I've called in two (one at a dead run after about 10 seconds of calling) and I've killed one.
It's not that tough to learn the basics.
Go to varmint Al's to hear what the calls should sound like, set up somewhere near where they should be and where you can see a ways, and let loose.
