I have a question. Is there a chart or a 'guideline' on what animal I should shoot with what cal.? I would like to go variment hunting and do not want to under power whatever it is I happen to be going after (ie) can I use a 7.62x39 for a coyote.....or could I get away with a .17HMR, or would a .223 be the best chice. Luckily, I have several friends I can borrow from.

Thanks again.

JJ

.223 over .17 without question.I use Match HP 52/53 GR. with reloader 15 . Very accurate with the correct twist barrel ie. 12 .Your friends may have a twist that would require a heavier bullet, and thats ok.

It is a personal preference on caliber... you will get a dozen opinions here on what is enough for coyotes.
I think a .243 is minimum and the .270 is very adequate for coyotes... JBRO;)
