Varmint Hunting

What does a PRIME pelt of the two legged variety bring nowadays?
Not sure I know exactly what a "wet" is ,but do they bring more?
Anyway ,I like to take a few predators myself,of the 4 legged variety.
Ever get any blonde/red yotes like this?:

I guess the predator hunting must be real good considering you have at least 4,475 square miles of land. What kinda truck do you have to cover that kind of area? Hope its good on fuel.

I absolutley love to hunt predatos and Varmints :D I kill coyotes year round and do this for some sheep farmers in Manitoba and some of the local ranchers here in Sask. I prefer calling in fall and winter but don't mind killing coyotes in the summer. There a good article in this months "Predator Extreme" which explains why coyote hunting in the summer is a good thing.
I also love shooting gophers and just got back from a trip to Manitoba where I cleaned up a pasture.
Ive only got two varmint rifles a Remington VSSF and a Weatherby Mark 5 one being a 220 Swift and the other a 22-250.
I love the hunt and predator and varmint hunting allow me to do this anyday with no restrictions vs a big game hunt (which I love as well)
Some great varmint/predator hunters on this forum which Ive learnt alot from and bought some nice guns from;)

Cheers!!

Hi, Ardent yes I do have that much to cover.I have a Dodge with almost a 1,000,000 miles on it and most of that is ranch time.I know one hunter who has about 2,000,000 arces to take care of.I have two other hunters who I have helping me at times. And you would not belive the amount of money people may to come down and hunt coyotes.I know of one who charges $300.00 a night per gun to hunt. And a one that charges $1,800 for a weekend hunt per gun. That is food and a place to stay as well.I don't belive in that and take no custermers hunting.I think it should be a sport not a company like deer huntung has become.I don't know about up there, but here there is mostly privet land here.So you hunt you pay out the a**.It is good to talk to you folks up there. It sounds like it is a lot diff. than here. Here I go talk to a rancher tell him what I do and give him some name of others ranchers .And he lets me take care of his place also.It helps living here all my life and knowing a lot of people. And doing a good job don't hurt.I have been bless I have never been ask to leeve a ranch in the 30 years of doing this.

Here are some pics.of what some it looks like. Thanks Clint.

By the figure you quoted, you claim to be responsible for just under 4,700 square miles, or almost a full 2% of the entire state of Texas. Are you serious? Sounds fishy. That's an enormous area, even here in Canada, and Texas is small by Canadian standards.

Hi, Ardent it is 1.745% and yes it's true.I don't like fish any way.And when I tell you something it is true to the best of my knowleage.Because a man is only as good as his word !!Remember this is Texas and eveything is biger in Texas LOL."This is God's Country",we have a saying here "it's like a whole nother country".Iam bless to be born here and live here. You will find that we Texans are very protecive of are state are way of life and God.We are like no other people.Did you know The state name derives from a word in the Caddoan language of the Hasinai: táyshaʔ, tecas, or tejas (the Spanish spelling); meaning "those who are friends," "friends," or "allies".Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly 10 years. It joined the United States in 1845 as the 28th state. And we are the only state that can leave the U.S. if we all voted on it.Did you know our flag is the only flag that can fly has high as our U.S.flag?No other state can do the things. As Sam Houston said "Texas can do with out the U.S.,but the U.S. can't do with Texas. We have another saying "Don't Tread On Me".Thanks Clint.

Now with the oil drilling going on now there is a rise in oil related crimes on the ranches. That is when I go hunting two legged varmints. And we have the wets coming over also and the drug runners to deal with. It's nice to talk to people from some other place. If you want to know more about varmint hunting just ask me or try this alot of good guys there. Thanks Clint.
I have to ask... by "wets" I assume you mean illegal immigrants from Mexico? Are you a Law Enforcement Officer? What do you do with these people when you encounter them? And the Drug Runners, what about them? Do you actively confront these guys and try to arrest them? Where is the Border patrol? How do combat Oil related crime on the Ranches... do the ranches own the rigs? What type of firearms do you carry and what are there uses?
I have heard that they are going to give amnesty to all the illegal immigrants in Texas soon and make them American citizens.

We are an agent of the land owers. And as long as you are that you don't even need a hunting permint from the state. No they don't own the rigs, but if they are on that ranch then I have to whatch over them also.If catch someone out there we stop them and ask to see their permint. If they don't have one they must leave at that time.If I catch them again then we hold them for the law and the owner will file on them. Now the drug boy you have to be very careful for they play for keeps. As fare as firearms go they are my tools. And they are my God given rights! You see are for farthers knew what they were doing when they wrote that fine piece of paper of ours that makes this country so great. It's not just me,eveybody down here looks out for eveyone else.Like we say here don't mess with Texas. As far as the wets well there always be a problem here. There is not enought border patrols to go around. Thanks Clint.

Clint

I'll be in Dallas for a week or so around the end of September, care to show me around your hunting grounds? I can get from Dallas to you on my own :D.

I'll gladly recipricate if you ever find yourself in Alberta ;)

I'm just trying to get my head around how big that is. The King Ranch is 825,000 acres. This ranch works out to being 3,008,000 acres.

The wikipedia reference has some interesting info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Ranch

vmaster59 you should get in touch with them. They are saying that the King Ranch is the biggest in the U.S. and the one that you are talking about is supposed to be almost four times bigger.

That sure is a lot of land....Reminds me of the time my dad went to Texas and, being a farmer, decided to visit a local ranch...Dad met the owner and Dad said " how much land do you have?" The owner said "well fella, it takes me three days in my truck to drive from one end to the other". Dad said" yeah, I had a truck like that too once"...........lol
