Varmint in 22-250, Which Would You Recommend? Made a Choice!

apologies to the guys that posted where I listed in Sporting Shotguns....wrong section, my bad.

Criteria for Varmint Rifle:

a) 22-250 calibre
b) Light weight in the 6 - 6 1/2 lb area
c) Can be wood or synthetic, but the "feel" has to be right (how the stock material feels and how it mounts to shoulder).
d) Detachable magazine preferred

So I'm looking at buying a Sako A7, Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, Tika T3 and Savage Weather Warrior 16 FHSS.

Anyone out there have any of these rifles and what has been your experience? Anyone have suggestions for another mfg. or model I should consider which fit the criteria above? Let me know.

IMHO..you have skipped over one of the most accurate "out of the box" rifles, the Remington 700, I'm sure one of those models will fit the bill and outshoot the other choices.

Remington?

I just don't hear anything "good" about rifles coming out of the Remington factory these days, and I don't want to take the chance and buy one and have to list it for sale.

I've owned Tika's, shoot an A7 in .270 (very accurate) and some Brownings which I find aren't as accurate as the Finland rifles, and often need more cleaning time.

Haven't owned a Winchester which was the reason I was considering it.

You can go another route and go for a 243 since they came out with the V-max 58 gr at 4000 fps almost push the 22-250 to obsolete, if you take a look at an TC Icon Precision Hunter in 243 it is certifed sub-moa mine test target was .35 With Hornady Superformance 58 gr v-max and the good thing after all that it is a super deer caliber to... Cheers. JP.

If you want a 'shoooter' out of the box I would suggest Sako. If you want a gun that can give you sub MOA with handloads and the potential to be built into a custom rifle later then go for the 700.. I'm a huge fan of the 700 action, but lately it seems their quality control on barrels is a bit off for my taste.

Would not take a chance a the lattest batch of Remmy kind of on par with chinese stuff if they dont clean up their act they will fall, to bad... JP.

A Winchester Model 70 Featherweight would be my first choice, accuracy is incredible out of these little rifles. I have 3 of them in 308. 30-06 and 270 and they can do MOA or better easily with the right load. No plastic, classic lines... real beautys.

I just picked up a savage hunter model 11 BTH, wood stock about 6.5lbs, thumb hole, gun feels great, shoots amazing and doesn't break the bank. Only thing, it doesn't have a detachable magazine, but personally I don't mind that at all in the bush.

What are you willing to spend?
How about a Tikka T3 in stainless/Laminated or a Sako Model 85 Finnlight ?
Also don't under estimate the .204 Ruger, I have a Rem 700 LVSF and love it.
Although it does not have a DM.
I just bought a older model Tikka. It's a Model 55 in 22-250, looks great and has the DM wood/blued. Some of the best ones are found here on Gunnutz, Keep your computer on and your eyes open. When you find out what you want to buy, you can almost always find it here. Good luck!

Tikka

My vote goes for the T3, have a T3 light in 204 and it`s great to carry and shoot. The 22-250 is an excellent round have fun when you decide which rifle you like.

How about finding a 700 LVSF in 22/250.

No drop mag but meets all the other requirements.

I know, I know.....700's suck.:D

Browning?

What's the quality and fit of the Browning X-bolts? Anyone out there have one in a 22-250 and what is the accuracy like? I'm setting up as a coyote/varmint rig, will scope with Zeiss Z-600 or Nikon BDC scope (I have both of these and like them on my other rifles) so that I can reach out and touch them critters.
