- Note: Please have entries in by Friday June 21, 2013. Payments can be submitted on the day of the match. Entries will be limited to 40 competitors. There will be NO walk on’s allowed; unless match is not full by match date. I will keep everyone posted as the date comes closer.

Course of Fire

Shooting will be done in a 2 person team format. One person shooting the other spotting/coaching then changing. If you do not have a shooting partner we can pair you up with someone on the range.

Both shooter and spotter will have 5 minutes to confirm zeros and sight in at 100 yards. All shooting will be done prone and a bipod and sling may be used.

Shooting will begin with one person starting at 100m, 5 shots each shot indicated. This shooter will shoot the entire course of fire before switching positions with the spotter.

Move back to 200m under control of the RO and fire 5 shots, each shot indicated.

Move back to 300m under control of the RO and fire 5 shots, each shot indicated.

Move back to 400m under control of the RO and fire 5 shots, each shot indicated.

Shooter and spotter change positions and now work forward starting 400m to 100m

Shooter and spotter now go to the butts and the people in the butts now shoot the same course of fire.

Break for lunch.

Do the same thing all over again, however if you started at 100 and your partner started at 400 you will need to change the order of shooters.

Any varmint caliber up .30-06.

Please know your come ups from 100m to 400m as there will not be sighting shots other than the first 100m range in the morning.

Ear protecting must be worn and all competitors will do butts duty.

Sorry, no live target will be harmed in this event.

Hi John,

Rear bag is allowed, anything you take to the line you have to carry. No problems with coming solo, we can pair you up with someone to be your shooting partner at the range. I have not decided on the targets yet, but I will say that they will be challenging and will be different at each distance. I will be sure to start the wind machine for you that day.lol
 
what are the restrictions on the gun? I have a varmint barreled r700 action, but aftermarket stock and trigger.
 
No restictions except no magnums. This is a fun match so we are pretty well open to anything you shoot varmints with or a varmint caliber. One member I believe is shooting a pink AR15 if his wife lets him use it.

She has already contacted me about some personal one-on-one coaching:p I might have to run her through a few positions to find out what works best for her.:nest:
 
Hi

I think we have 5 coming down from Guelph..if Hessels still needs a partner maybe we can help him out...maybe he can partner with my wife..shes a better shooter than me anyway..according to him!
 
Wow 5 shooters from Guelph would be great. Mr. Hessel has informed that he does have a friend that will be coming along with him. He warned me last time that he was at Cedar Springs,that next time he was going to bring some friends that really know how to shoot. This was after he won my 1 MOA Challenge. This time around I am starting the wind machine.

Results

Results from today's Varmint Match at Cedar Springs.

Highest possible score was 40 pts. Winds were light with a few short period of liquid sunshine on one relay. Cloudy in the morning followed by bright sunshine with a bit of mirage.

Targets were scored as either a hit worth 1 point or a miss. 100m targets were life size mice, 200m targets were snakes (very popular with some shooters), 300m targets were starlings and the 400m targets were groundhog. All targets were printed on paper and no live animals were harmed during this match.

The match was really a great time, everyone surely enjoyed it. Good exercise too.

There was no shortage of beautiful rifles there, that's for sure.

Here's an idea for next time.... How about adding some timed exposures and moving targets to spice things up a bit?
