Looking at purchasing either one of these two varmint rigs.

1) Tikka T3 S/S Varminter in 22-250 or

2) Remington VSSF Pre VS SF II in 220 Swift

both are new...the Remington is about $50 bucks cheaper.

Your input is greatly appreciated!

I'll be setting aim at dirt pigs mostly:D

Thanks

I have owned 4 swifts and at least 5 22-250's. I used to own a VSSF 220 Swift. Great rifle, mine preferred 50 grain bullets. "Barrel burning" in the swift is talked up a lot, and for shooting 100 rounds an hour at gophers, neither it or the 22-250 will last long. But be reasonably smart about barrel heat and a swift will last a long, long time. Really not that different from a 22-250. I have usually found better accuracy with the swift as compared to the 22-250. Most people who go on about the swift and barrel burning have never fired one, yet alone owned one.

Have no experience with the varmint weight Tikka, supposed to be an accurate rifle however. I'd go with the one that fit me the best. Truthfully I'd grab the VSSF swift and never look back. Chances are good however it would require a bedding job. The alumimium bedding block is a neat idea, but there is too much variation in receivers and bedding blocks to expect it to bea true drop-in fit. Mine did not require a bedding job, and would shoot 5-shot groups at 100 yards usually under 1/2".

The Tikka is a half plastic gun, with a short cartridge in a long action and snap-on stock pieces to make a standard sporter stock into a "varmint" stock:confused:

get the VSSF in the Swift....if you don't buy it, tell me where it is...:D

Amen Rick!
Go with the Remington Chilly. That extra fps will help out in the margin of error on the shots at the far end of the field. All barrels will burn eventualy. If they didn't how would the barrel makers feed thier children?;) /tt

I'll bet the 700 Swift will shoot very well also. If it doesn't shoot under an inch out of the box I'd be very surprised...and it wouldn't take much tweaking to get it under 3/4"...maybe less.

There is a Ruger 77 stainless H/B in 220 Swift at the local gun shop.VERY NICE RIFLE! $650 used.
I will own a T3 Varminter in the next 2-3 weeks (6.5x55) and so will some other lucky fellow(2 in the shipment). Mine was ordered last May, should be in my hands by end of month.

Isn't that the truth!

I have often heard that the 22-250 will do anything a Swift will do. Also heard that it shoots as flat as a Swift. Anytime you hear that, you know you are hearing from someone who has never shot a Swift very much, if at all. :D

I hate to throw a wrench into this .22/250 vs .220 discussion, but a great varmint round that'll let you step out a bit farther, and take the occasional "Wiley", is the .25-06. A bit more weight for less windage, still plenty fast, and flat shooting.

Out of my Ruger #1 it's pretty formidable!

Its specific to 22 cal's. a 25-06 is pretty redundant when you have a 243, 260, and 270.:D

my pic is a 223 rem. your 243 will do anything that the swift or the 250 will do downrange, but its not as quiet as a rem, or hornet for that matter.
Ever thought of a savage model 40?
A model 40 would break the grey and black of stainless synthetic guns in your cabinet:D, and not make your 243, or 260 a safequeen
