varmints with a 22 rimfire?

Shot quite a few foxes , mostly under 50 yards with a .22 mag and it works well .

With respect to the Quick Shocks and Velocitors, are there any versions for WMR that are hotter and hit harder than the usual factory ammo? I just recently picked up a Marlin 25 MN that I haven't had a chance to fire yet, but will be going ammo shopping very soon.

I have a relative who'se had good success controlling the coyote populations with a .22 by "ambushing" them. He sets up a concealed position in a field near a tree line, sometimes dumps a chicken in the middle of his "kill zone" as bait, calls in the crows. Spends his day plinking at crows as they come in but doesn't retrieve them. More often than not a coyote will come in and try to grab one of the dead crows... You know the rest...

Just happened to check this thread out and on the first page saw the response from Khalnath regards a "buddy" shooting a coyote. Made me friggin sick and more pissed me off to no end. Look, use ENOUGH gun. 22 are NOT enough gun for coyotes. F*** I am pissed off. And you wonder why there is an anti hunting sentiment out there! Its #### heads like that that's why.

I don't agree with hunting with for pleasure (when you have the choice) with a .22 for 'yotes, but I have had to go out after them with a .22 before, because it was on our farmland and near livestock. Anything more is too much blast and a risk as well, I'm not advocating it, but the .22 will drop a 'yote like anything else with the bullet placed properly, and below 50 yards. That said, pleasure hunting should NEVER been done with a .22 for anything 'yote sized.

.22 LR will drop coyotes no problem, if it don't on the first shot with a semi auto you can pump 4 more shots into it quick cause almost no recoil.

If you do use a .22 use something like the 40Gr CCI Velociters.

You don't get it do you! Thats what caused the agonizing death of the animal in the first place, and a 22 leaves too much room for error. I don't give a rats ass if you can PUMP 4 more shots, get it done with the first shot placed correctly if you insisit on using a 22! See what Ardent said above. NO animal should be caused undo pain!!!!!!!

If you don't want to cause an animal any undo pain then don't hunt them. There's no real needed reason to kill them. People hunt everything from deer ETC with the right guns and guess what allot of the times they still get away and suffer.

I'm with the other guys here... Gotta say buy the right equipment for your sport :) If you know you're going after yotes, get a centerfire for it and you won't regret it :) Cheers :)

I would always try to use the right tool for the job and appreciate the info , even though some comments seem quite harsh it was just a question. It is not a question of being too cheap, just trying to tap into the experience and knowledge of others

Ahhh another what gun do I use thread.

Here's the way I see every thread that comes on this site like this.

Buy the right gun for the right animal, if your to cheap or don't have the money to buy the gun to do the job right, don't hunt the animal.

Plain and simple, I should sticky that!;)

I'll go one step further and say that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a sticky about humane calibres for different game categories.
It could deal with legal requirements as well as the realistic capabilities of the specified cartridges in each class.
I think most of us are tired of the "17 Remington for Coastal Grizzly?" sort of stuff and I don't think it would do any harm.
But then, as one member pointed out in past, I'm not a moderator and this forum is for debate & discussion......even if the subject matter is questionable.
