Varrying degrees of breaking the law or poaching, etc...

I hope all you people who are puffing out your chests and declaring you have never stretched or broken a hunting reg. also have obeyed all posted speed signs, never smoked a joint, never taken money under the table for working, etc. etc. etc.
 
Did I break the law this past autumn?

It was a Thursday, late November & the weather called for snowflurries changing to showers in the afternoon. True to their word the flurries started about 10:30am .... but instead of changing to rain the snowflakes just got bigger & stickier. As fast as I could dust off my hunter orange vest, the big white flakes would cover it again ..... so I eventually got tired with it all, gave up & just concentrated on hunting (with no dusting) the rest of the day in eventually a totally white colored vest with virtually no orange showing at all.

So am I obligated by game regulations/law to clean my vest at a rate faster than the snow is building up, even if this may be necessary every 2 or 3 minutes ? Since there must be a rate & stickiness factor of snow that deems this physically impossible to keep up with, is one protected under an 'act of god' clause or as a law respecting hunter should I have just gone home when I determined that I couldn't keep up in providing/showing off the required/legal amount of hunter orange surface area ?

If I was so poor that I needed the meat to survive,I would have already sold my guns,and hunting gear, to put food on the table.I wouldn't even be able to afford to pay for the gasoline to go hunting.

I guess I'm strange in thinking there's a difference between doing 10 over the speed limit and killing something out of season. By that logic murder is the same as running a red light, rape is the same as building a garden shed without a permit and beating your children is the same as peeing in a public place. The Canadian legal system identifies the severity of the law being broken. I'm just satisfied knowing I have never, nor will I ever shoot a game animal out of season. I don't poach period.

When the money from that was gone then what?Hunting can be a 10min walk out the back door...What does that cost?

Not that very long ago many people relied on wild meat to make it. Is it so hard to fathom that there are still dirt poor people in this day, and age that are in the same need?

Well let me tell you something.....I was raised with very little, and I know if it weren't for venison, and my father growing a great garden, supper time would have been pretty disapointing, and I am only 41. Chit happens and people do what it takes to go on.

I know that I could feed my family with a 22magnum and a box of ammo if I had to.If it came down to it I would. If you have never worn those shoes it might be hard to imagine.Going to a food bank would be a harder pill to swallow than breaking a game law IMO.

I grew up in a family where a few deer,and plenty of grouse were a staple that was much appreciated,because we did not have a lot to spare in those days.But every one of those animals was taken in season,by a person holding a valid license for the species.

Going to a food bank would be a harder pill to swallow than breaking a game IMO.

If I was that poor that I was on the brink of starvation,I would swallow my pride and line up at a food bank to feed my family,rather than risk being caught poaching,have my gear confiscated,and be faced with a fine that I couldn't afford to pay.

Penalties obviously vary for the severity of the crime but the fact is you are still breaking the law regardless if you try to justify it by saying only doing 10 over the speed limit is no big deal. Or is this a grey area in the traffic laws for you?
