Velcro shell holder?

I bought a $200 wing master through a buddy a couple months ago, mainly as a bear f*** -off-er for in camp.
In the interest of tacticoolness, I got a synthetic stock and sprayed it ultra flat khaki, and in the interest of seeing things, I've ordered up a light for it.
Now, I want to be able to keep 5 shells on it when it's sitting in camp. I saw some Velcro-on shell holders awhile back, and I think that could be the ticket, but I'm wondering how well they actually stay attached. It's be nice if they worked really kick ass, and I could also stick that strip of 5 shells to the dash of the truck when we're out exploring. It'd also be nice if I could remember where I saw them for sale.

So, can anyone offer some advice/experience as to quality and a source?

thanks!

Source; S&J Hardware (see dealer network). Good quality that won't break the bank.

I have a bunch of the ones from S&J. They are excellent. I like the fact that you can keep a couple loaded with different shot or slugs and change it instantly. Just make sure you use the alcohol swab on the shotgun where you are going to put the Velcro and then the Velcro sticks like S**t to a blanket. And the price is good too

If I could do it all over again, I'd probably save the money and go with all hook & loop shell carriers instead of bolt-on aluminum ones.

I agree. I've had MESA, great quality but I like the velcro concept for weight savings and the masssive differrence in cost doesn't hurt either.

I've actually mounted Velcro on the back of my mesa carriers too. The industrial Velcro is at home depot for like 10 bucks for 4 ft. I also like that taking the carriers off reduces bulk in the cases. Most of my soft cases are 2 gun

There's two types.

S&J, Esstac, SOE etc. use elastic loops.

Or theres HSGI which use plastic loops.

Elastic loops wear out with use. "Change'em when they wear out like your skivies"
I'm not sure if the elastic would wear out before the velcro or not.
Depends if your using them to swap your side saddle out for a new one when the old ones empty

I would think that the elastic one would be harder to get rounds into if your loading the side saddle on the move from dump pouch.

Plastic ones have only the velcro to wear out but only hold 5 rounds.

Elastic Loops:

This is what S&J, Esstac, SOE etc. are like.

The HSGI is a very well made unit, but has a MAJOR design issue, and i simply cant undersstand why a company that makes gear as good as them would bring somthign to market that has that issue...

The issue wit hthe HSGI unit is that the body that holds the shells is plastic, normaly there is nothing wrong with that.
But!, as soon as there is any flex in the shell strip then one or more of the shells fall out....
The you tube videos you see promoting this product even point this out.
The reason this is an issue is that unlike and ar15 mag, ak, fn, whatever, when you pull the HSGI shell strip from its pouch each shell catches on the side of the pouch, and as soon as the strip is out and your deploying the strip to the side of the firearm the strip starts to flex a little as you holding the strip by the pull tam and 5-9 oz of weight suspended.
Any movement, flex and bumping into kit on the way to depolying the shell strip to the side of the firearm results if the plastock shell holders sections on the shell strip opening up.
Then of course shells start to drop.
I have not found out what type of plastic they are useing, but it also has the same issue that Tacstar has when very cold or very hot, shell drop out if depolyed brass down.

Now i know all this sounds like hype coming from me as im the owner of S&J hardware, but trust me, even if you dont buy our product, look into it before you start buying.
I like the mesa unit, and we still sell lots of them, but they have the same issue as Tacstar, if left loaded they will drop shells.

The S&J Hardware DSC will not drop shells no matter how hot or cold it gets, we are useing the best US Mil spec webbing we can find.
we have some test units from out 1gen that have been left loaded almost 3yrs now, now and then we put those units on guns and shoot, still got to go.
We are about to make our 4th gen DSC, as we are always getting feedback from our customers on how to improve them.

we have out NEW ultra compact DSC pouch Mk2 about to hit the market, it was well received buy some people that do this stuff for real, and they have used evey product on the market.

Thanks for that post! Lots of good info and that new pouch look great, might be my next nylon purchase.

Looking forward to trying that out.
Molle attachment?

Yep its Molle...Got to lay my hands on one at One Shot's demo day...Must say, it is probably one of the nicest, well made shell carriers I have ever handled. Not bulky at all, considering it is holding 18 12g hulls. I keep bugging Simon to speed up production. Lol

I like the elastic type ones. The only issue is see is that reloading the shells back into the carrier is difficult... sure you can tear the velco strop off and replace it with a new one thats loaded, but you still have to fiddle f@ck with trying to squeeze shells in.

The HSGI looks like a great concept.. just wish there was no flex.

Itw would be bulky and expensive, but a Tacstar/MESA metal side saddle with a velcro backing to swap them would be nice...
