Interesting question.
My only point of reference is a short barrel Remington 783 HB in 223. It was a pretty decent shooter, and very handy to transport. But even with as light a round as 223, it wasn't pleasant to shoot. Lots of muzzle flash and definitely had more muzzle 'flip'. Found it distracting.
I wouldn't be too keen on another really short barrel rifle.
