I tried the Browning and CCI Mini-Mag in a rifle, and was very impressed with the Browning velocity - over 1400fps (40 gr bullet). The cci was only 1240.

So I decided to try the ammo in handguns, to see the effect of the shorter barrels - 4.5" in the Norinco and 2.2" in the Astra 7000.

The Browning ammo is clearly formulated to take advantage of the longer rifle barrel. It did not do well in the pistols at all.

Ammo 4.5" 2.2"

CCI MiniMAg 1108fps - 858 fps
CCI Segmntd 1334 - 1000
Browning 1037 - 767
Rem Gld Bulet 1090 - 847

I always appreciate real-world tests like this, thanks for sharing! I haven't tried the Browning ammo yet, sounds like it might be worth giving it a shot.

I did a similar experiment a few years ago. The biggest velocity lose I found was with hyper velocity ammo. Remington hornets and yellow jacket ammo lost the most velocity when fired in a pistol. The lower velocity rounds did not loose as much velocity. Slightly different powder in the hyper rounds and wasn’t fully burning in the pistol. I am not surprised by your results. I normally don’t test for velocity now in my pistols. I find which gives smaller groups.
