Hi all

Just wondering if someone could explain why field guns have a narrower rib than a competition gun. I guess that I am really inquiring about the Beretta O/Uers - considering a 686 E sporting 20ga for a upland gun mainly because of the wider vent rib (or is my thinking backwards).

Thanks for any info

I think that the 686 E sporting 20 gauge would make a very nice upland gun. I am not sure why you think you would choose it mainly because of the wider vent rib? It is true that sporting guns usually have wider ribs than field models. There are many reasons and most reasons are technical and geeky and really do not make much difference. I think it is mostly a fashionable thing among target shooters as well as a marketing thing. If the 682 fits you well and your think it would be comfortable to carry, give it a try.
