Get the TC Icon in 243 best kept secret of the rifle business those rifle are just the most accurate out of the box rifle you can buy, the 243 is the third one i buy this month and i am now shopping for a 300 TC Icon, it is like a drug... JP.

The polls don't lie. All are good guns but I just got a Tikka T3 Stainless in .223. It has become my favorite gun to shoot.

I also Have a Remington 700 in .270, Savage 11 in .308 but the Tikka is now my "goto" gun for the range.

of the choices listed: I've had bad luck with several Remingtons recently. Savage is OK, but I don't like their synth or wood stocks much - a laminate model would be my first choice there. Never tried a TC. The Tikka is pleasant all around, if not particularly outstanding in anything, and a little character-less.

Winchester 70's are nice, but a little heavy. Ruger 77 would be an outstanding choice, might actually be my top choice. And I really like the A-Bolt, too - worth looking at.

You have listed some good ones, the Rem 700`s can be spotty for workmanship. As far as the other three it`s a matter of which fits the best, all good choice`s. My vote went for the Tikka t3 because that`s what i shoot for gophers, would not hesitate to buy the others if buying a new one.

Ok I'm thinking the tikka is out unless I geta hunter cause I really don't like the feel of the synthetic it just doesn't fit or feel right. The icon has a hogue stock but can be upgraded to walnut or ultrwood laminate. The savage and the 700 have multiple different aftermarket choices. Kinda liking the looks of the xbolt hunter or medalion really like tang safety guns. Just seems the right place to have one. Like older rugers with tang safety and adjustable trigger but not fond of the new short cut rugers hmmmm. Decisions decisions. Thanks for the feedback and keep it coming.

What do you think of the trigger guard? That's the only drawback I can see.

It really doesn't bother me at all. I don't have sausage fingers mind you. My finger falls pretty naturally into position with it. If you pm me your email address I can send you some pics if you're interested (just blackberry ones so don't expect any hd stuff)

The Venture is accurate like a Tikka maybe more and its finish is less plastic, best buy in the 4 proposed here... JP.

I think for the best out of the box accuracy...look no further than the Savage/Tikka...never mind the other two. Do a quick search on here...you should find enough info to make you also biased ;)

Sorry to announce you that but for out out the box accuracy my Icon precision Hunter 308 ( 900.00 out of the door ) is shooting on par with my TRG-22 as in .25 @ 200 metres my Tikka (308,300mag, 7mmm ), my Remmy ( Sendero 300 mag, 700 308, 223 ) my Savage ( BVSS 308, BVSS 223 Model, 10 FP 308 ) NEVER given me .25 out of the box even at 100 metres. Now you got a lucky one you say ,i bought a TC icon 308 WS a few weeks after what do you know this one to shoot .25 at 200 metres, just order a TC Icon Precision Hunter in 243 a month ago i thought TC only had single shot and black powder, one day peoples who bought a Venture will realise the only thing that is budget in their rifles is the price... Cheers. JP

I am a TC addict but was unsure of the Venture. I already own an Encore and a Renegade. But I really want a decent bolt action don't think I'll be able to swing the Icon so maybe venture it is. Kinda hung between a Savage and a Venture now hmmm we ponder on.
