Ordered a couple Talley cross bolts for a project I'm messing with. Brownells calls back today telling me they can't ship them to Canada as they are restricted. WTF!!! The US has completely lost what little hold they had on reality. Seriously, are terrorists hiding away in caves building rifles in need of cross bolts, what's next checkering tools? :onCrack:

Here's a pick of the item in question. As you can see it's an obvious threat to their national hysteria (sorry security). Those Canadians can't be trusted you know. :jerkit:

A famous American once said "Those who give up liberty for security will soon have neither". Their new homeland security agency has indeed removed many freedoms they used to enjoy to create a sense of security

Ben Franklin;
Those
who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety".

Agreed! But that's what the US has been doing since 911.
Another famous wit said "Canadians make all the same mistakes as Americans....ten years later".

Talley has no doubt elected not to register with State for export of their goods.
It would cost them, what, $1500 or so for the first year?
Have to sell a great whack of stock bolts to justify that expense.

Yep- every manufacturer must be registered with the State Dept. before their products can be exported. It sucks- and I'm sure Brownell's don't like it much, either, but we're all stuck with it.

You might try contacting Talley Mfg. and see if they are planning to register, though. I did this a couple of years ago with one mfr. (can't remember who) and they said, "we just filed the papers; Brownells should have them now." (But don't hold your breath.)

Hey it's a great community we have here! Already had a couple guys offer to source them, A Class all the way! Thanks.

It's really laughable. I watch the news and hear about car bombings in Iraq, Iran and their nukes, Afghanistan, all the money spent fighting terrorism. Then I think to myself, some lazy ass bureaucrat in a nice conditioned office somewhere, thinks it's a good use of resources to create mounds of paperwork chasing around gun parts. While out in the extremes of the desert their, and our I might add, boys and girls are chasing Abdul (who already has access to RPG's, AK's, explosives ect.) in a life and death struggle. This f*cker then actually thinks he's contributing to the effort against terrorism. What a farce, just like our gun registry. :runaway::runaway::runaway:

is it the same talley who makes scope ring's?

they seem to get here fine, i've got 1 or 2 pair sitting on my shelf.

or does the company have to register each item specifically?

also, would a company like fastenal sell something like that?

Brownells has proven to be very difficult with stuff like this, as they got in trouble a while ago with the US Feds. I would try either Talley direct, or Sinclair's. They will have a better idea as to what to they can send, and what they can not.

I have found that Brownell's seems to put a very strict interpretation on the rules. I have had them refuse to ship an item, then been able to get the same item shipped by someone else. As an example, Brownell's won't ship triggers, but you can get them direct from Timney.

I found that all you can do is try. It takes 2 minures to phone and place the order and become disappointed.

It really is hit and miss. The $100 mark is key to them as well. You may have to remind them that the $100 does not cover tools - only gunparts. I get a lttle angry but it is not the fault of the perosn on the phone and I try to remember that.

Brownell's owns Sinclair

Yes, Brownell's does own Sinclair. I would have never noticed the Brownell's logo, directly under Sinclair's, if you hadn't pointed that out. My point is, Sinclair is run as a different company, and seems to have way more knowledge about shipping stuff out of the US, than Brownells does. Brownell's has told me no, where Sincliar's has shipped it. I was just offering a suggestion based on my experience.

It has also been my experience that problems are much less likley when an order is placed on-line.

I agree, especially given the current export environment. The last online order I placed had an item incorrectly removed because of DDTC regulations. Had I not been on the ball and called them as soon as I saw the omission, the order would have been shipped without the item in question.
