I have a versa max sportsman (welded lifter, shortened stock, tactical charging handle, jumbo bolt release, mag extension with new spring) and am having some issues with it. I thought it might just be break in but I have about 300 shells through it now and am still having issues. It doesn't seem to have any issues when it is cold but after it gets heated up I am constantly having stoppages. It will eject but not feed the next shell into the chamber. Most of the time it will just be sitting on the lifter and sometimes it will catch the side of the chamber (and has even ripped a few shells open). This has mainly been with birdshot since that's what I usually shoot but it has happened with heavier loads and slugs. Any suggestions?

I've read that a welded lifter can cause the "jamming into the side of the chamber" issue because it doesn't center the shell correctly.

As far as the failure to chamber the round on the lifter goes, maybe clean and lube the trigger group and check for any spots the lifter may catching in the receiver? My buddy's VMT has occasionally left the round on the lifter and we haven't figured out why. Mine runs 100%, and has right from new.

polish the part where the shell catches in the chamber and lube the lifter/bolt lock mating surface

nope i have a versamax tactical, has worked perfectly.... going to send it to casey this winter to get the loading port opened up and the welder lifted.... also have a beretta 1201fp i am going to have him rebuild for me.
