Versa Max shell lifter

If you could take the time to post pics of your lifter that would be a big help as I was going to weld up my own but if I could just order one it would save me a lot of time. Thanks

I can't show the entire lifter but here is a shot of my VMT with one installed. The port was also opened and internals polished.

Just got my taran tactical one for my versa Max. Easy install.....hardest part was the bloody snap ring. I can't wait to try her out. Dummy loads cycle well after a little breaking in of the new lifter

I just got 5 of the Tartan Tactical ones in. They are a bit shorter than the Versamax ones. Is there any feedback of how the Tartan ones work in the Versamax?

I have a fitted unit on my VMT. Since the TT is shorter I think its going to vary from one person to another based on technique and to some extent the size of the thumb. In my case the thumb is small and thin. I was an accident waiting to happen with the original lifter.

The TT and the Tact Ord are too short for me. Quads and deuces, bite my thumb bad. Weak hand, load 4, GTG.
I copied a Crums one on my home weld job.
Works great just looks like crap. My welding skills are not up to par. lol
Its about a 1/4" longer than a TT and the Tact Ord.

Going to see if I can send my Tact Ord back and get it extended.

That's even longer than mine with less of a gap. Good job!

I just checked. Mine come within 3/16" of the follower. It must have been the camera angle when I compared the pictures.

For the guys who got their ports opened up, where did you get it done? I will post pics of the lifter Casey did for me before he started ordering the Taran Tacticals. Mine fits nicely, but he one offed mine. No stuck thumbs anymore. Thanks Casey.

I got mine done by Benny Hill's shop here in Texas. Along with Crums, I think he was a leader in making these mods. He does both Versa Max and Benelli's in large numbers for the competition shooters down here. I've seen one done by hand but obviously these guys have a jig for use with a mill.

The VM has a bigger port to begin with that makes high speed loads easier but the extra milling does even better which is why Remington is doing that on the new models as well as including the new lifter. Compared to paying for the mods, getting the gun play ready is a good deal. The mods cost me $400 and and I had all the "tactical" parts as part of the VMT package. The going price for the full package of mods including parts is over $800.

Got the shell lifter extended as long as possible and angled at Tac Ord. no more sore thumbs, also had the loading port opened up. Casey did an excellent job making the versa 2 up loading easier and faster.

Is there any particular reason why all lifters aren't of this shape from the factory?

Is there some type of downside to the long flat lifter?

Why do the factories go to the extra trouble of making them forked in the first place?
