VMT is indeed stamped for 3" shells. Whether or not the CFO looks at the marking or actual chamber size is another story. As I've verified in my own thread, the chamber is indeed the standard 3.5" as found in the regular Versa Max.
 
Had my versamax out today for the first time. It's the 26" version, only mod I've made so far is to put the m1/m2 extended bolt handle on. I was out with a group from work and we probably put 250 rounds through it. We were using federal 1 1/8 2 3/4" ammo and there was not one malfunction. This thing was the softest shooting shotgun I've ever fealt and handled great. Only issue I had was the mid rib bead popped out after about 10 shots and was lost. Looks like the threads are fine it probably just wasn't tightened down enough. I plan on putting a mag extension on it and maybe welding up the lifter but I'll probably shoot it for the summer as is. If you're on the fence about these, get off and go buy one.
